Was that the 49ers playoff game back in 93 or 94? Actually, I’m thinking that game might have been in San Francisco, because I figure the 49ers had home field advantage. Those were still the Super Bowl contending years for the 49ers and some post-super bowl Dan Reaves bubble years for the Giants.

I just remember the Giants getting crushed in a playoff game by them in 93 or 94. Maybe that was at Giants stadium? My football memory doesn’t go back far like my hockey memory, but I haven’t really followed football too much later than those years.

Maybe the Giants and Niners also played some in the late 80s Parcells years. Did they beat the niners en route to the 90 Super Bowl? I wish I could remember.

Now I have to look all that up.

Oh man, the Giants SLAUGHTERED the Niners at the meadowlands in the 86 playoffs in the first round on the way to the Super Bowl. How could I forget that? Only after looking it up do I remember watching that game and I really do remember that one.

I was a pretty big football fan until my teens. I can’t remember anything the Giants did after the 1997 choke job to Minnesota, other than the two Super Bowl wins after that.

It's very funny when people try to attribute one opinion to 'the board'. I feel quite confident that most of the same people who were against acquiring a 29 year old anything 2 years ago are also not on board with acquiring Markstrom.

Markstrom is having a career year. His career average is that of a solid (but not great or elite) starting goaltender. And he was a pretty late bloomer too. Didn’t have a full time NHL gig until he was about 27. He was set back in his 22-23 year old season by having to play games due to injuries the Panthers had in goal.

It took him several years to shake that off.

I do remember before he came to North America he was called the “Greatest goaltender not in the NHL” though.

It’s funnier how people think this team has way more issues than what’s in net. Vanecek has cost the team 5 points with his shitty goaltending. That’s 5 points that would have us above half the teams we’re chasing.

The team is getting healthy and literally can go on a run if they have consistent goaltending. Markstrom and Daws gives us that.

The Devils fan club just from what I've noticed usually spends a lot more than what I would if I just booked on my own.

Yeah that would tune me out of going with them as well. Either way I'm interested in going and there is a lot of time to figure out the logistics to save money. Even if it's just shooting out there for 3 days or so.

It's taking a risk on what Nashville does, if they put Saros on the block finally which they should then the goalie market prices are far lower

If you value the relationship now definitely isn't the time to bother him about trade negotiations lol. Maybe casually bring it up late in the summer when the draft/free agency are wrapped up.

I understand posters reservations with a deal happening meaning the team is fixed. But I don’t think anyone is really saying that. Goaltending IS though our biggest need. It will also be our biggest need in the off-season. The devils are in a position to add a goalie of Markstrom’s caliber and salary during the season, where other teams might not have that ability due to their cap structure. Teams in the off-season are going to have more ability to maneuver their cap and add.

It’s gonna come down to what they are giving up.

Is it Holtz + and we get Markstrom

Mercer + + to get Saros?

I think I would rather keep Mercer.
