I haven't seen them lately, but last I saw od Toff's overall metrics they were solid and better then Yegor's overall, including defensively.
We both know that killing penalties isn't an indication of strong defensive play from forwards but Sharangovich does give you an "all situations" type of player that Toffolli just isn't.

You can effectively use Sharangovich in the bottom 6, in the top 6, on the PP, on the PK... anywhere.

That's not Toffolli, not in the least bit...if Toffolli isn't giving you above average goal scoring what else can he do?

My understanding is Toffi is good all around 5 on 5 based on his metrics even when not scoring. Yegor was a negative 5 on 5 defensively and didn't contribute anything when he wasn't scoring either.

He is a better PKer so I guess up to you to decide what's more important. Better overall 5 on 5 play or an extra PKer

Still baffled how an NHL caliber player can be so slow as toffoli is.

His goals have been great for us, but it's been awhile since someone has been on the team as slow as toffoli for a forward. how is someone that slow at that level? He isn't that old yet. Maybe Jagr? Or camalleri whomever was last. Pat maroon? I guess he maybe the last guy.

Even Dougie moves around the ice faster I believe, just looks slower cause he's a big dude with slow long strides.

I actually think I am faster than toffoli at 41. No joke.

Toffoli had 4 hits last game (50 on the year). Yegor has 9.

Say we move Mercer, as much as that would suck. If we're gonna go over 6M for a veteran forward, I'd rather it be Buchnevich. Or someone like that. Good defensively, can keep up, gives you some offense and occasionally pummels someone (Girard in '22 comes to mind).

Sharangovich is more of a floater than Toffoli and doesn’t contribute much when he isn’t scoring himself.
Oh come on.

You're never going to use Toffolli on the PK, you're never going to use him 4 on 4 or in overtime... you're never going to use him the bottom 6... Sharangovich is 100 times more versatile a player than Toffolli is.

I also don't think we need Hanifin. He's going to be expensive to re-sign, and with Casey coming, why exactly do we need a 33 point offensive defender for big dollars?

This goalie shit is going to ruin this team. Markstrom is not a need for any price. I don't want a guy who best case retires in 2 years after this one. No thank you, not doing it. Not to mention any new contract is a 35+ contract.

Saros is another matter, but you can't give up 19-22 year olds for him (at least not several). If Trotz wants Casey, Holtz, Mercer and/or 1st round picks he has to sell us Askarov, not Saros.

We've let up more than 2 goals most recently when? The Calgary game where we should have won and blew it, and then we changed the system?

Right now we're playing great defensively and can't score because our forwards keep passing in tight as if we're on a fast break and we aren't. They think somehow they're going to get passes through defenders in the slot or crease. They need to shoot in close and go for rebounds, not try to make these tap in passes. The last several games this was legion including the 0-1 loss to CAR.

Oh come on.

This is completely true. I think the goal was to move someone who was viewed as a mid-6 ceiling and get a pure scorer. I think the deal was okay, but Toffoli probably walks after this year which kind of stinks from an asset management standpoint. Looking back I'd have rather kept Sharangovich and maybe include him in a goalie deal now if not keep him entirely. I felt his struggle last year was inconsistent use PLUS having the kid.

That said we had to make moves because the team wasn't going to win as constituted last year. Fitz made the right intentional moves if not the right move

The latest from Calgary Puck-

"my friend's dad who is close to one of the guys in management said that he told them the plan was to play Markstrom yesterday until NJ become pretty serious in talks with them late Wednesday night.

He said that Lindholm also knew the Sunday that he was likely heading to Vancouver before it was official Wednesday.

So I suspect it seems likely it is pretty much a done deal, but working out small details.

He told me earlier in the week that they looked at Holtz, Mercer, Vanacek and Siegenthaler as pieces that would potentially head back to Calgary. Not sure if that changed, but id expect that 2 or 3 of those names come back depending how big this deal gets."

If Fitzgerald trades Casey or Mercer in a deal for Markstrom I think he should be fired.

Yeah, it would have to be part of a bigger deal to also bring on an extended Hanifan, which I have no clue how Fitz would make work long-term.

Is our cap situation so tight that we need Calgary to retain on Markstrom. We would have no problem making him fit this season with Hamilton on LTIR and I'm not exactly keen on paying a premium to get Calgary to retain.

We’ve literally seen him in those situations except for PK. Why wouldn’t you use your best shooter? Sharangovich is way worse than Toffoli territorially and it isn’t close. There is a massive gulf between perception and reality for both of these players.

Here’s the last 3 seasons at 3 on 3:

Biggest problem for Yegor is he doesn’t get enough shots on goal

Yegor averages 2 shots a game. 17 TOI

Tyler averages 3 shots a game. 17 TOI

Yegor is on a shooting bender, it will cool down as it did here.

Yeah I am assuming that he did say when he was traded here he wanted to resign here or something close to that. Have to see how it unfolds. You’re assuming he wants a max longer deal. Maybe? Maybe not?

Why wouldn’t we bring toff back? Is there some young proven goal scorer that wants to sign here in the summer? Please let me know

We wouldn't bring Toff back because by next season I could lap him in a skating race, and I'm not a good skater...

Neat trick to use 3 years for a 32 year old player....hey let's dip back into his 20's...Yegor gets more time this season 3 on 3 and you only assume the gap will be significantly wider next season
