Mercer absolutely should not be moved for Markstrom.

Mercer absolutely COULD potentially be moved for a Saros (extended) or the ilk

there is a difference. No one is saying just to trade Mercer willy-nilly.

Fitz probably sees some life in the roster finally and will pull the trigger on maelstrom to try and catapult them for the playoffs. Probably would rather saros but they don’t sound open to lowering the price

Wonder if a win tonight makes him pull the trigger or wait to win Saturday? Tough spot to bring maelstrom into an outdoor game. So maybe they go 2-0 and Fitz makes the move?

He has experience in them at least? He has to have started a heritage classic at least once.

Lebrun says retention was what killed it the first time. We want them to retain, they want another asset to do that.

Guess we see if someone blinks or they find a compromise.

For anyone that went to the last outdoor devils game, is the idea of wearing ski pants to the game a good idea or too much

The warmer gear you can wear the better, especially if you don’t have access to any indoor spaces to warm up.

Otherwise you’re sitting mostly still in 32 degree weather slowly losing heat for hours. I don’t think there can be too much.

My plan is thermals and pants. Heavy socks. Thermals, shirt, heavier shirt, jersey, and heavy jacket.

I’m also bringing 40 disposable handwarmers.

One game doesn’t change long term outlook but I’d really like Daws to get some extended run. He more than passes the eye test for me. A part of me would rather just trade for Kahkonen, who has been solid, yet not spectacular, with a .905 save percentage. I’m just so reticent to give up Mercer or Holtz as part of a package for a 34 year old goalie. It’s not good asset management to acquire a player who, if we are fortunate, gives us two seasons of quality goaltending. If we are talking about a 29 year old Saros (if we can extend him), that’s a different story.

If Hanifin is included as part of a Markstrom deal (if extended), it does change my thought process somewhat.

I'm in two minds in trading Holtz for Markstrom.

If you are certain that Ruff is the right coach for the team, then absolutely trade Holtz for Markstrom because we know that Ruff-Holtz relationship does not work. Ruff wont play Holtz so lets get an asset to improve the team before Holtz value tanks while he remains buried on the 4th line.

If Ruff is not the right coach, then I rather Fitz make a coaching change rather than acquire a goalie.

They might see Clarke as being able to do what Holtz does too. I.e. offensive winger talent with huge warts in his all-around game that need to be worked on. Oh and Gritsyuk in the pipeline too.

I am pretty sure the Calgary people on hf that are saying its done is based on this forum (thanks google): 2023/2024 Trade Rumors and Speculation Thread - Page 1088 - Calgarypuck Forums - The Unofficial Calgary Flames Fan Community

The guy who apparently is the insider is 'Sec214'

Kind of weird to even have the guy in a backup role if the deal is done so who knows. Some random dude did break the Lindholm trade on the flames reddit tho before the major insiders lol
They think they’re getting Mercer, Casey, and a 1st for 34 year old Markstom in that forum. The worst trade deal in the history of trade deals, maybe ever.
