Markstrom should be a decently-priced option; not buying the hype that hes returning a 1st+, but I could be wrong
All it takes is one GM who gets desperate and/or thinks he's the last piece. Personally I don't want Fitz to be that GM.

It's a position which I don't envy Fitz. While he shouldn't just do nothing, he also shouldn't be giving away too much if he doesn't think this team can get it done.

Which I think is the real question. Does Markstrom fix enough to make us a legit contender? In theory with the offense we have it should make a big difference, but sometimes things aren't that simple. How long is the adjustment period for Markstrom, or does his style fit so well in shouldn't matter?

I'm not gonna lie, part of my hesitancy is that it seems like every goalie move we've made has failed. Granted, none of them were as good as Markstrom is now, but the pessimist in me sees his up and down nature in recent years paired with his age and expects the worst.

If your desire is to make the playoffs this year, Markstrom is probably a good fit.

If you want long term success I dont think hes the guy at the current asking price. Now that is fluid and if the price goes down we can re think this. But if they want Holtz and a pick, its just not going to end up good for us long term.

No cause actually call him up. If we wont make a trade atleast throw 1000 darts and hope one sticks

Sign Halak, give him a Poulter a chancer, give Schmid another one. Just do something rather then the status quo

Seems pretty crazy that Martin Jones came in and has played fairly well for Toronto, that guy hasn't had a good season in 7 years, and was putting up terrible numbers in 5 games in the AHL this year.

I'm honestly of the belief that we're probably too late to make a significant move in goal. I think we're getting close to selling and giving Daws/Schmid and extended look. I don't think a new goalie right now can play well enough to make up enough ground. Stranger things have happened but I just don't see it and that sucks.

Any goalie is capable getting hot for small stretches. Jones was good for like 12 games and has now given up 20 goals in his last 5 starts.

It would be nice if we got a hot 10+ games out of somebody. Anybody.

My guess is the market is over priced and or fitz doesn’t like some of the goalies available.

Fitz has done well with trades no reason to think this time will change

Ya, and in defense of Fitz, goalies can go cold for awhile, and then get hot.

Skinner in Edm. .885 through 21 games played. .943 in 14 games since.

Fitz was hoping Vitek would find a grove. Or Akira. And then he tried Daws.

He's given his guy, who was good last year, and is under contract next year, a lot of rope, but he has tried multiple options as well.

I think we are at the time though where he makes a trade.

He doesn't have a ton of experience but he is definitely flying under the radar for us. You never know long term what he can amount to. The kid is only 22 , very young .
I don’t understand how Fitz hasn’t given Poulter an NHL deal yet.

With all the goalie issues, why would they risk him signing with another club?

The hard truths:
-We lost the Toffoli trade
-We lost the Timo trade
-Palat’s contract was a disaster the day it was signed
-Timo’s contract has negative value
-Jack Hughes is injury prone
-Nico is one concussion away from Nolan Patrick
-Our 4C is going to prison
-We have the worst goalie in the league

Did I miss anything?

anyone is allowed to and encouraged to "fan" however they want, but I will never understand those that choose to fan like this guy. Weird stuff.

Pens lose in regulation to Wild. None of the teams NJ has to pass are all that good.

Some proper goaltending and NJ can put together a solid stretch here. The league is so mediocre which is why I have a tiny bit of hope left

Maybe but they really have to try something new. They’ve had 50 games of Vitek and Daws and Schmid and it’s not working this season. Give Poulter a shot get a cast off from some other team but I am skeptical they can ride the current goalies to a hot stresk and you are right that the division is mediocre and the door isn’t closed

He also has no reason to get desperate with his current job security. The only reason to get desperate is if the owners lean on him which would be atypical

By the same token though, I need to see Fitz start holding people accountable for being an underachieving mess

I was only half paying attention, but the Oilers feed mentioned that John Gibson has left games 13 times over the past however many years just due to injury. He left injured tonight.

I’m not sure if that was his entire career (I’m gonna assume it was even more recent than that) or what, but that’s yet another problem with Gibson. That was even a problem with him when he was young and still really good. Guy used to get injured and leave games a lot and miss time.

He really just may be Blackwood 2.0 more than the next decline era Schneider. Most of his injuries haven’t been severe, but I’m sure his drop in play is in no small part due to the injuries he’s compiled. I remember when he left the game injured in the WCF in 2017 and missed the rest of the series.

Just. Stay. The. f***. Away. I beg Fitz.
