I believe after this game Markstrom will have close to the same stat as Kahkonen. Kahkonen younger and cheaper. Both had not good previous season, both had different but good career before.Markstrom not helping the Devils out 2 goals on 6 shots to Detroit
Nothing. They have no young more talented or\and more proven NHL player they are ready to trade.I have zero fear of Calgary outbidding NJ for any player. They have shown themselves hidebound to date and have not really done anything but draft and make value trades. They didn’t beat NJ for Meier and I’m skeptical they give up good young player for Saros. If NJ offers Holtz and a first what is Carolina offering that is better?

Its interesting and tricky. They have some very good prospects but only Nikishin is ready to make real an impact on NHL level. May be they can trade Nadeu but he isnt on the level with Holtz. Overall I think their situation isnt really bad, but I agree they cant beat Holtz in a reasonable trade. They will not trade Nikishin, Drury isnt on the level with Holtz, may be Ponomaryov is more attractive for Calgary, but I believe they want more proven player on NHL level with bigger size.I think Carolina is close to missing their window. Lots of guys on that team need new deals in the next couple of years and they’ve shown they will let guys walk. They are closer to contending the next season or so than NJ and they seem unwilling to make an effort beyond a token one to get better. They should make a push this season and next season.

Their middle six isnt really shine this year, but they have Ponomaryov in developing, Nikishin is may be the best prospect or may be even the best player outside NHL(at least as NHL ready for making impact), may be Nadeau will be good under the good coaching. May be Koivunen will develop his game. They have some more interesting prospects. I believe they will save some good players, they will find some good players. I dont think that offensive squad is a big problem. Especially if they will sign Necas for a long term. But defense... even with Nikishin its very interesting how they will handle it.They need to make an effort this year and next. If they just stay pat and add a value player hoping to get more grit and vet presence they won’t be any better than they were the last couple of years. How many playoff runs do they think Martinook will be a top six player?
A meh goalie would be light years better than Vitek.Sure but look at a team like LA. They have two meh goalies but play solid defense and the meh goalies are holding up. Get a decent vet and play well in front of him and they will be ok. Maybe sign Quick for a year or something like that.
Driving that price down lolAnd got smoked.
??Hatakka being held out again in Utica, he was out for warmups according to the beat writer.
Give me Saros and I'm good.4 on 11 Markstrom pullef

Calgary just doesn't retain on trades. They've done it once and that was 50% of Rittich's expiring 2.75 million deal. Unless they decide to retain, or Fitz decides to take him at full price, it's likely not happening. Which I'm honestly fine with. Markstrom scares me at full price. Hell, even with retention I'm not a huge fan, but at least if it doesn't work we wouldn't be stuck with him at $6 million for 2 more years.Hatakka was a +2 tonight on the game sheet so he definitely played.
Markstrom trade is probably either dead or wasn't done to begin with

Simply put, the matter with Holtz, as you alluded to, is Ruff. What's the matter with Holtz? He got 5'+ TOI yesterday and the last dozen of games he got around 8-9'.
Starting into this season, he had some really good games and seemed more stable with his game on both ends.
Right now, I think NJ might be better off to trade him instead of dumping him into the 4th line.
Somehow it seems Lindy doesn't click with Holtz at all and he does get some special treatment in a bad way.
Trade cancelled. Daws is here!
