Yeah, if McLeod wasn't seriously one of the worst goal scoring forwards I've seen since the goon days, he could potentially be a good 3rd liner in the league or middle 6 guy, but he doesn't have a good enough shot.

He seems to have shown a decent ability to be able to tip pucks in at the crease and cut to the net for a few goals, but I can't even put into words how bad his shooting is.

I will also say, he has certainly improved enough the last couple of years that he's not looking like nearly the worst 12th overall pick we could have gotten. I think he's certainly improved to a level much greater than I thought he would have a year or two ago. In a league that has now moved to the point where icing good 4th liners is actually becoming a thing (much to my delight) and no longer as many plugs and plumbers, I think he's a good player to have in that role.

The fact that his goal scoring is so bad probably keeps him from being a top-9/middle 6 player. I think he can have an up year in goals scored (9 in 56 games in 20-21 wasn't terrible for him) again, but not sure he'll ever improve enough to be a perennial 10+ goal scorer, but it's always possible.

It's surprising a player like him is as bad at scoring goals as he is.

im surprised you think Mikey is as bad at goal scoring as you say..

a quick refresher shows me he scores at about the same per-game rate as beloved Devil Jay Pandolfo; and thats with much.. MUCH less ice-time!

though league scoring was a lot lower.. if I had the time to sit down right now and do the fancy math, i think it would show me that McLeod is a better scorer per time on ice than Pandolfo was!

also thats having removed each's two worst/least played seasons

I thought Gustavsson was quite a find but he’s had a very rough start this season. It’s early but disappointing for everyone trolling for potential future goalies.
yeah - definitely a question if last year was a fluke or more sustainable. The Minny D is having a tough time with Spurgeon out and Dumba gone. Gustavsson doesn't seem to be helping things right now, but I wonder if he'll improve as their defense improves.

Dumba was pretty bad. Spurgeon’s a rough one

I can't imagine that replacing Dumba with whoever they have playing on their off-side is an upgrade, no matter how bad Dumba was last year. I didn't watch for that last night, but Merrill, Hunt, Mermis, Middleton, and Brodin are all left shots.

They went from a right side of:
2022-2023: Spurgeon, Faber, Dumba, Addison
2023-2024: Faber, Addison, ???

I think my save percentage just fell as I typed that. :)

McLeod's only issue right now is semi-stone hands. He skates well, hits hard, faceoffs are great, defensive play is strong. But he struggles to finish and pass - but that's what's been slowly improving even if it's below average still.
