They are the vegan golden cockfights to me now and forever.

They were from the beginning.

Anyone have the corsi graph bars for the game? I really should bookmark the site so I don't have to keep asking for them.

I just got back from the game and see the GDT so I'll put my thoughts here, really annoyed at the PK tonight with their failed clears leading to the 2nd and 3rd goals. Also, would love to see a kill on the one where Jack lost his cool a bit and slashed Walman (that's a penalty but the refs are blind for allowing it to get it there). Love what I saw from Vitek, two of the goals were utter trash that Detroit scored but he made some grade A saves. Jack is the third or fourth best player to watch live in the league imo besides McDavid/Makar/MacK.
Nice steady game by Luke Hughes, 17 minutes and change, with good decision making and flashes of brilliance is maybe the most positive thing getting lost in the post game commentary.

Some quick decisive plays to steady things in our end in the first period when we were under siege; some bursts of taking control himself and skating with the puck and also dramatic plays cutting to the middle in the Wings’ end to get a shot to the net. He’s got a good, low, hard shot.

Strong and steady first game. Looked confident and at home. Plays so effortlessly that you sometimes might not realize how good he is.

Low event Luke is an interesting development.

I get the feeling Timo's raw production this year will disappoint a lot of people, But his play style forces the opponents to be honest in how they defend him an his line.
he got the puck a lot in San Jose!

its another reason i liked Holtz with those two; keeps the puck on Meier's stick longer

I get the same feeling from Timo. This a guy who was a forty goal scorer and although, he plays a good all around game, since we traded for him last year I haven’t seen much of his goal scoring abilities. I know it’s only one game, but this goes back to last season when he came over here. It worries me a bit.

I feel like that line still had their moments last night even if it wasn’t a great game overall. They kind of were the trio that kickstarted us tilting the ice in the second period.

Timo was the one who made that great pass to spring Dawson too for that great chance. I’ll have to watch it again.

He's getting paid 8.8m he should produce imo. If he doesn't put up offense and is just a banger that's a worrysome development.

My biggest takeaway was that Vitek looked good. Others flashed and Jacky delivered. I was pleasantly surprised with Noseks game. He was like Bizarro Wood (who scored an EN BTW).

The average margin of victory in the NHL is 2.02 goals and the average goals per game is 3.23. Games are universally going to be closer than the pre season Devils hype would suggest. So, I am thrilled with wins and Vitek looking solid.

Last year's Bruins were such an anomaly.

He wasn’t even really low event. Per 60 he was 6th in total Corsi events behind the Siegs-Dougie pair and Nico line. Total xG events he was 5th behind Dougie, Nico, Mercer, and Toffoli

That pass was sweet, it was with a little under 4 mins to go in the 2nd period

Well yes, I'm not saying he'll totally fizzle out and turn into David Clarkson or anything. But I could see him having something like 27-35-62 and seeing people be really disappointed in that based on his salary.

Timo made some nice passes last night and could’ve had at least 2 assists, I remember thinking that to myself a few times last night but the 2 plays that come to mind were his pass to Mercer for the breakaway and a nice saucer to Nico in front of the net.

But it’s only 1 game and that line as a whole had a little bit of an off night. I doubt it’ll be like that for very long.

We should be massively disappointed with that. He paced for 78 over 82 his last 2 years in SJ. At the very least 70 should be the baseline.

This what you mean?

Yes thanks! I guess it's gamescore and not (just) corsi. The eye test also supports that 2nd and 3rd line had a bit weaker game, I wonder if they should have kept the preseason combinations. Meier still doesn't look like he did in SJ. Thought Bahl would be higher and surprised Haula is that high. But I guess points count quite a bit in gamescore, I would rather have a xGF/xGA type of chart (or just straight up corsi) .

The Nico wasn't great in the preseason. Like it was fine but not something that couldn't have been broken up. The Haula line got cratered. 26% CF and 22% xGF. On paper it should work and likely would be fine with more time but I get the switch. The Timo-Nico-Mercer line last year was dominant in it's limited sample and on paper looks like it should be dominant. Personally I wanted to keep it the way it was to give Holtz some more run with a consistent line but I thought he looked far better last night than he did in the preseason.

I think it’s possible that Timo’s best spot in the lineup is away from both Nico and Jack. If he needs to be “the guy” with the puck, Timo-Haula-Holtz could be the way to go.

Still very premature, he’ll click with Nico.

I mean he played the majority of his time in SJ with Hertl. It's not like he can't play with other good players and it's also not like Nico needs to be puck dominant to play his game like Jack does. Timo should work with Nico. They also had a 68% xG last year together. Last year in the regular season with us his goal scoring was about in line with his SJ numbers but he was not getting any luck with assists. 0 2nd assists at 5v5 and a brutally low IPP of 39% after being double that his last 2 years in SJ.
