Yeah I think everyone is present and accounted for

(Waiting for the... nico is week to week, tweet)

I was picturing more of a Luke Skywalker bionic hand. Nico definitely took a stinger off the glove blocking a shot during the last game.

As long as it was off the glove, and not off the wrist no glove area... Im less worried. Waiting eagerly for no bad news. Lol.

I forgot about Tatar as well, he also blocked a monster shot either in the last game or the one before that.

You will notice that tweet doesn't specify whether they are available to actually play in the game or just whether they are available to go on dates or some other event requiring availability.

Towing the line of vagueness....

Yeah the vagueness is a pain in the ass but I guess they only reveal what the league and PA require them to. Marino and Graves were "week to week" then Graves shows up out of nowhere and we have nothing on Marino.

Bastian was a ghost for a while and we still got not diagnosis or timeline.

Nico being "available" could mean anything from "oh don't worry, he's playing" to "if the sherpa we sent into the mountains can locate his yurt, he will play"

love the Sherpa and Yurt reference, A+ material.

Lebrun released an article like 2 days saying that it will get done, essentially.

Again, basing any offseason plays on one pending UFA is always a recipe for disaster. If he isn't signed by the end of the season, sure then maybe we can talk. Players of Pasta's caliber/age almost never even get close to UFA.
Except he is close.

We've been talking about UFA's and RFA's ever since we realized this team might be something. It's part of the point of this board.

As for LeBrun I don't know where you're getting your info from but this is from 5 days ago in the athletic: "There’s been ongoing dialogue, but my sense is the gap in positions is real," The Athletic's Pierre LeBrun wrote Thursday.

And his agent: Pastrnak's agent, J.P. Barry, told LeBrun on Wednesday, "I’ve been in regular discussions with (general manager) Don (Sweeney) about our respective positions for a few months. We remain apart at this juncture. We will continue to negotiate.”

This stuff almost sounds worse than what's coming out of Bratt’s camp so I see no reason why it shouldn't be worth discussing.

okay man, you keep hoping that David Pastrnak hits UFA. Have at it.
At the last minute, I fully expect Sweeney to tell Jacobs that he (Sweeney) did all he could and they will have to pay Pastrnak or embrace a rebuild after this season. Jacobs caves at that point and complains bitterly to Sweeney but pays Pastrnak.

Boston is a machine right now, but I have some serious questions about that team if this really is Bergeron’s last ride. He is totally irreplaceable, especially considering his contract. If Pastrnak does get a massive raise, I don’t know what the plan would be.

No, you're correct. Let's get back to discussing Timo Meier for the 832nd time.

Thanks for helping me see the light.
Pastrnak is NOT going to be a NJ Devil.

Let's get that out of the way.

In fact, I am so confident that he won't be a Devil, that I will bet my Avatar on it.

In fact, if he does become a Devil, I will put up an Avy with 3 words on it for an entire season.

Those 3 words : "I am Stupid".

I am THAT confident that Pasta won't be a Devil.

So...do *you* want to put YOUR imaginary money where your mouth is, pal?

Eh, I can see them bridging him and getting somewhere around that.

I don't think he is getting 5m, but he will likely be in the 4-4.5m range. He has almost 2 full seasons of games played so far and is putting up ~25g / 82, not a ton of players are taking a 1m (800k real money) raise after producing goals at the rate he has so far.

I didn't say I'm positive he's going to be a Devil, just that it's worth backing the brinks truck up for and that every day he goes without an extention the more likely it is he'll dip his toes in the UFA market.

Probably more than half this board was convinced Johnny last place was on his way to Newark, so I don't see why this is such an outlandish thing to consider.

And that flag in my avatar isn’t going anywhere, but the guy in yours possibly is. So I suspect you're as likely to change it as we are to land pasta anyway.

The Bruins letting Pastrnak walk would be the biggest FA blunder of the post-lockout era. Entertaining the idea of him coming here is pie-in-the-sky discussion.
Krejci and Bergeron likely gone, Marchand approaching old man status, DeBrusk due for a big raise next year, and Jacob's being a cheap ass gives me hope.

Several die hard B's fans friends of mine agree with this assessment.

If he wants to keep winning his likelihood of doing so while being paid handsomely makes NJ a good fit given their current trajectory.

That is all.

You make an excellent point about Pastrnak. That said, Jacobs will almost certainly cave in my view. I can't see him willing to preside over a rebuild. Sweeney will show him that next year's payroll is only $58 mil as presently constituted and they can pay Pasta and still afford to sign Zacha.

Yeah. It's fun to speculate (it's HFBoards!!) but Pasta will end up re-signing.

Obviously Sweeney will try to nickel and dime him for the most team-friendly deal possible. But when it gets to the 11th hour, he'll just hand him the cheque with the number Pasta wants.

I think it’s highly unlikely that Pastrnak gets to UFA, but if he did, he would be the most significant UFA in some time. I was wondering if NJ landed Meier, would they still have enough dry powder to go after him. So I modeled it out. I don’t use Cap Friendly for hypothetical lineups, I just use a spreadsheet.

Right now I’m using a cap number of $86.5 (is that wrong?) I let Tatar, Wood, Johnsson (duh), Haula, Severson, Graves and Blackwood walk.

I have Bratt and Meier at $8.5, Pasta at $12, Shara at $2.5. I don’t have a 3rd line center, but still have $7.2 mm cap space left.

Pastrnak-Hughes-Palat
Bratt-Hischier-Meier
Zetterlund-?????-Mercer
Holtz-McLeod-Bastian

Siegenthaler-Hamilton
Smith-Marino
Kulikov-Nemec

Vanacek
Schmid

I’m sure this is flawed in some way, but the point of the exercise is that they should absolutely pursue Meier, it will not prevent them from getting Pastrnak in the extremely unlikely event that he does become available.
