Also, I had posted this in one of the GDTs a week or two ago...but the team can absolutely afford to pay both Bratt AND Meier.

a couple of notes:

- I just picked Adam Erne at random. You can insert any veteran bottom 6 forward there you want (though I would prefer it NOT to be Erik Haula)
- Bahl has not impressed me recently, so you may need to replace him with someone else, but its whatever.
- I left a couple million cushion because of guys like L. Hughes' potential bonuses (though I think CapFriendly already factors that in?)
- I have honestly been coming around to the idea of re-signing Graves if he would take a fair contract. That might grant you the ability to leave Nemec in Utica for another year, if he needs it.
- Severson and Blackwood need to be gone under any and all circumstances. I also have no interest paying Miles Wood the type of contract he is likely to garner as a UFA.
It’s wishful thinking that we’re gonna get McLeod (and Bastian) for only $1 million next year.

I wish……. But you know they’re gonna give him more.

They really shouldn’t break the bank though. As he’s really not worth much more than that. He’s probably worth a little more than that, but not a ton more.

I definitely don’t want Wood. Thanks for your time here, but go get paid and some term elsewhere. I would only take him back if it were on an identical contract to what he’s getting now. The one year for a little over $3 million.

Severson is gonna cost too much and so is Blackwood (and he’s terrible anyway) at his qualifying offer. He can be replaced with any Tom, Dick or Harry making $1 million. You can sign this year’s version of Charlie Lindgren for $1.2 million (definitely not for 3 years like Lindgren got) if they’re not comfortable with Schmid, and we will likely see no drop off from what Blackwood is at worst case and probably even a little better.

He's Boston's version of Joe Benigno.

Holler at me when TSN or The Athletic have something to say on the matter.
Lebrun released an article like 2 days saying that it will get done, essentially.

Again, basing any offseason plays on one pending UFA is always a recipe for disaster. If he isn't signed by the end of the season, sure then maybe we can talk. Players of Pasta's caliber/age almost never even get close to UFA.

Any word on what part we're replacing on Nico? It seems like we've learned our lesson and keep a lot of spare parts in stock, so hopefully the transplant won't take long.

Took a clapper off his hand on Carolina’s PP late in the game, he took one shift in the OT I think, assume it has something to do with that.

All of our resigned RFA's seem awfully optimistic in this scenario IMO, 3m for Sharangovich in particular.

meh, sorry I totally disagree. NOW is the time to load up. We kind of know what we have in this core....a team ready to compete with a few tweaks here or there.
I’d be concerned about the lack of depth up front behind the top guys. The only way to get through that is elite production from your top guys, elite special teams, and/or elite goaltending. I’m not sold we’d get the latter and the PP has never been this cores strength.

Not to mention, this teams strength is more of a 5-on-5 team. That requires depth and four lines which that team just does not have.

At the very least, you need to find room for a Graves-level defender. Gives you a reliable second pair with the potential to spread Graves/Marino out to play with the young guys.

Without fail, members of this board will always look to remove a good player from this team rather than adding to the good players we already have. It’s mind bottling. That’s right, mind bottling.
Are you talking about Wood? Would be nice to keep him, but you have to assume some team will give him a stupid contract based on his tools - hoping it leads to him stepping up if he gets more ice time on better lines. Will conveniently ignore that NJ has tried this and it hasn't worked, but maybe this time it will. So if he gets something in the 4M range, you walk away. Really 3.2M is the max I pay for him. Something like what the Isles pay for their 4th liners.

Or Severson? He has played himself into maybe being willing to accept a bridge deal that would end when Hughes and Nemec are due for raises, but the trade for Marino means there is just no room.

Graves I would look into keeping, if he's willing to take a 2 or 3 year deal.
