Re: Zajac contract. No idea how you give a center that's never hit 30 goals/70 points that deal. But hey, stability: TZ/Henrique, 4eva

SHUT UP YOU FAKE FAN

With the NHL today when you get an extremely solid center like Zajac who doesn't have amazing scoring skills but possess great passing skills, 2 way play, intangibles, PK ability, hard shot, etc. you give what he wants.

He just proved he isn`t. If he was, he would know him good enough to know his true & market value.

To quote someone you know:
"i don't know how you give a guy who barely knows anything about hockey a primetime blog. but hey, they're idiots."
Should be tweeted by one of you and retweeted by everybody else.

Was it a slight overpayment, probably, but not obscene. We figured he would get between 5 and 5.5 and if he hit UFA, who knows how much one crazy GM might give him, I'm sure someone would offer up 6+

Yes, never 30 goals or 70 points but he's our first line center for the forseeable future, is young and just coming into his prime years, plays in all situations, and consistantly can be relied upon for at least 50-60 points.

Lou also rewards loyalty and look at Travis' last contract - his cap hit was under 4 yet he has been our first line center for nearly the entire duration of that contract. He has been a bargain and Lou is now making up for it.

I'm Ok with the numbers - but what happens if we stink like everyone says and draft MacKinnon next year? :sarcasm:

This isn't overpayment. **** that tool!

Overpayment would have been if we let him test the market, and had to match what some other team gave him, and no doubt he would have gotten maybe $6.5 million from somebody. Especially after Getzlaf was picked up.

He's also consistently been one of the best faceoff guys in the league. On a team that finished second to last in faceoff percentage last season with him gone most of the year, this is hardly overpayment. He's pretty invaluable to us.

I was expecting a cap hit in the 4.75 to 5.25 range but I'm not really upset with what he got. Glad that we'll see Zajac most likely be a Devil for life.

Not sure how this is an overpayment. The cap is goign to be ~90 million when the deal is over. His cap hit would be ~6% which is nothing for a 2nd/3rd line center.

It isn`t an overpayment. Period. Move on. Don`t let people like Wysh make you thinking about it. There`s nothing to think about.

If you really expected anything less than 5.4m, you were damn optimistic and unrealistic. Wish you were right though. haha

If he was signed for 5 mil per everyone would be creaming themselves over this so the extra 750k is not that big of a deal. He is our top center, one of the best defensive ones in the league, and has chemistry with our franchise winger.

I know he's pretty well hated as a color guy but damn do i miss chico, i miss how if it was a slow game he would talk about nonsense. I remember one game he started yammering about buying goalie masks on ebay for like 5 minutes.

Game 6 goal vs. Florida got him that contract. That and Parise leaving.

He had more goals than Parise in the playoffs unless you count Zach's two empty netters to Travis's 7 non empty netters. That didn't get him the contract. He was one of our better players throughout the playoffs. I think he still would have gotten this if Parise hadn't left.

Now if Parise didn't leave the question would be ''Can we keep Zajac, and Clarkson with this monster contract, and fit under the salary cap still?'' cause we likely wouldn't have signed him before UFA had Zach stayed.

Through Ryan Kesler's first 6 seasons in the NHL, he had 213 points and was a +10 in 402 games

Through Zajac's 6 seasons in the NHL, he had 255 points and was a +36 in 423 games.

Is this not a fair comparison?

Well maybe not expecting as much as hoping. Anything under $6 million is fair IMO

The thread for this on the main board is making my eyes bleed. The whole "X scored more points than him and he's making less" argument blows my mind. Not to mention I bet half of them haven't even seen Zajac play.

Had to do a triple take when I read that one twitter. Just scrimmage updates scrimmage updates, and TG is like oh ya and Zajac got resigned. HA and to a nice deal too.

Trav Trav is locked up, Lou knows how to troll. Now unload one of those extra D-Men and get us another forward and let's do this short season like our last short season!!!
