He was not good with us.

However, this is a 2-way deal and he is still young. Essentially 0 risk for the Devils - good deal.

I don't think so dude. Gormley is not worth Nugent-Hopkins.

Unfortunately his brain is the only thing he has that can keep up with the NHL level. Good luck in NJ.

i was very excited when he was traded for elliot, thought colorado killed the trade.

turns out it was overrated dman for overrated dman. i was just accepting that elliot was not an nhl dman at the time of the trade.

He's not even a NHL player lol

And the Devils didn't necessarily sign him to be one. He's a depth signing, but obviously will be given a chance to earn a roster spot just like everyone else.

He's borderline NHL player, as the 53 NHL games over the past two seasons would suggest. Always good to have guys with NHL experience available as call-ups...especially when they're only 24 years old.

Was always overrated by HF.

TSN had him ranked 4th overall heading into the 2010 draft and he dropped to #13. No surprise that many would overrate him.

Can't see this as anything as a positive for NJ - they lost a few d-men down in Albany so at worse he fills a spot down there.

Obviously didn't do that well with Colorado last year, but perhaps he does better in NJ's system - have to think this may be his last shot at the NHL, so will be interesting to watch him this preseason.

The narrative on this site has flipped entirely since he was traded to Colorado, which was seen as armed robbery by the Avs around these parts

We hoped. Was not to be. All fans wish a guy turns it around or whatever for their team, but I wouldn't get too excited by Gormley. That small, small chance that he puts it together is outweighed by him having had chances on 2 (soon 3) of the worst defensive clubs in the league. If he can't cut it in Arizona or Colorado, why should he even get a call up in NJ?

If he makes it, he'd be the best thing out of Denver to NJ since Chico.

I was a big fan when he was drafted; never improved his footspeed and hasn't shown he can be a 'smart' defender. I'd be very surprised if he makes the team this year. Should be extra depth if nothing else.

I watched Gormley a ton during his time with the Wildcats, since i live 2 streets from the coliseum and can litterally see the top of it as i type this, but i agree with the foot speed assessment. I remember he always seemed like he had to skate his hardest to get out of trouble. It worked in the Q, but not gonna work in the pro's. One hell of a slap shot though.

Was never the same after his injury. He lost a step when he already lacked speed. Maybe the Devils can turn another ex Coyote into a serviceable dman like they did with Moore and Schlemko.
