I find it interesting that you root for the Devils while living in Calgary?
What made you become a fan of the team as opposed to rooting for the Flames?
It was a combination of a few things that made me a Devils fan. I followed the devils when they squeeked into the playoffs on the last day or close to it when Schoenfeld was the coach. I was around 8 -10 years old . Loved how they were an underdog , and had a team full of hard working players instead of superstar lineup.
I was a goalie myself and liked the Devils goalies , Terreri,Burke, and of course Brodeur . I loved the stlye they played.
I was born loving hockey. I used to collect NHL stickers and cards when I was very young , and I loved the Devils jerseys ( colours and crest ) .
My older brother loved the Devils as well. I’m not sure why he started cheering for the Devils but is also a hardcore Devils fan to this day.
For years it sucked trying to follow the Devils as we only got a chance to watch a handful of games on TV then watch highlights in the evening after they okayed ( or if they happened to televise a game vs. A Canadian team ) or we go to live games in Calgary and Edmonton , sometimes Winnipeg and nkw Vegas / La / Anaheim / Florida when I plan holidays around being able to watch the Devils.
I have yet to make it to NJ though lol. Before I croak , I’m going there. My brother caught playoff games last time we made the playoffs vs. Lightning. He gave me the red towel they handed out at the games lol.
I hate the Flames , never did like them as I hated their players like Hunter , Gary Suter etc etc . Never could bring myself to cheer for them and didn’t want to cheer for a team just because they were close to where I live or a Canadian team. I didn’t mind the Oilerswhen I was young but never really cheere for them , the Devils and only the Devils have always been my team since I can remember.
