At this point I think it seems like a fair bet that Schmid and Daws will be in competition for the backup spot next year and we'll let Blackwood walk. Barring some unforeseen developments.

I'd try to trade Blackwood. I just don't see it with him. He looked shaky even behind this awesome new brand of defense the team is playing.

Is it possible Jim just likes to one, be negative and two, disagree with people?

Would explain why he’s not around nearly as often when things are going well. It’s harder to be negative.
And why even when things are going well and he’s around he tries to reach for random parts to argue about even if he sounds dumb and is going against the most basic common sense. Like his arguments don’t even make sense or say anything at this point.

I mean...I don't wanna be that guy, but it's on everyone here who still engage with him. I stopped agesssssssssssssssssssssssssssss ago

So, I just skimmed this, but I feel another reason is they have been way better with the forecheck and keeping the puck in the offensive zone. I think in previous seasons they were too much of an "off the rush" team and exchanging chances and also having very little actual time spent in the offensive zone.

Who would want him?

A lot of teams. They prob wouldn't offer much though.

This wasn't true, but the Devils have the 4th best Corsi of all time with a lead (Colorado in 2021, Rangers and Carolina this year), and by far the best xG (Carolina this year is second). Most years very few teams manage a 50% Corsi with a lead, at most one or two, and most years the best xGs with a lead barely creep over 50%. The Devils are different than almost any other team in this era, so far.
It’s so refreshing to watch. Takes stress out of watching it.

Also, that the 4 best are in the last two years probably shows there is starting to be a league wide shift in thinking on how to play with a lead.
