Nemec needs to work on skating, after all his quotes I was expecting a jump in that area.

Many of the forwards were irresponsible with the puck coming out of the zone.

Toffoli is our Justin Williams and will go along way to improving the PP.
I was actually impressed with Nemec’s skating - when he went stride for stride with Kreider there before losing his stick and taking that interference penalty he looked just fine to me and a surprisingly mature defensive prospect ready to play in the NHL.

Not sure why you feel that way. His skating looked more than good enough to me.

Some of his decision making as well as dzone work needs some improvement and you can tell he needs to adjust to the pace. If anything maybe a little more quickness in the dzone would help him a bit but really his skating isn’t an issue whatsoever.

Im guessing its from the one play he got coned and it led to a scoring chance.

Bu overall i agree i didnt see anything wrong with his skating.

Only negative that stuck out about Nemec is quick decisions. He would use his positioning and skating well but then put a pass into a tough area that lead to turnovers. Couple times he had space to hold onto it to make a better play but moved it quickly instead. Confidence and decision making will develop as he gets older. Everything else looks pretty good.

He's also the only right-handed defensemen this team has that will make a slick cross ice pass to setup a goal (Toffoli's). All chubby wants to do is shoot it from the boards smh.

You know who chubby is.

Nemec has some really nice plays last night and I liked how he also consistently got the puck on net quickly, but he also had a few bad defensive reads that makes me think he could use more seasoning in Utica.

Then again Miller showed me nothing and I know that Smith has had a rough pre-season, so Nemec may actually be the best option at 6D right now, but I think it's most likely he at least starts the season in the AHL.

To me the only question that matters is which option is better for his development. Whether it's Miller or Nemec as the 6D isn't going to make a big difference on whether the team makes the playoffs or not. If you think Nemec is better than Miller but also that him playing all situations 1D in Utica for most of the year is better for him than being the 6D then you do that 100%. Then you bring him up down the stretch to get him integrated for the playoffs

Lmao, I missed this last night, I didn't get the chance to watch much of the second period.

It's been 5 or so years now where I've started to see hockey players complain the second they think someone should take a penalty... or raising their arms if they think the other team is offsides like it's soccer. PLAY TO THE WHISTLE. So annoying.

I'm not sure Luke can approach Niedermeyer defensively...Scott was very, very good defensively.... underrated even
Bump. What made Scott so good in the D zone is the respect the other teams had for his skating. As soon as he would corral the puck in the D zone, the other teams would back off, leaving Nieds with an easy out. Completely underrated.

He had 17 career shorthanded points
Which includes scoring a 3 on 5 goal!!!

I disagree about the difference it could make. If Nemec plays and can get up to speed, he has the talent and potential to have a much bigger impact on the team than Miller. Especially if we lose a dman or two. Miller hasn’t looked all that good so far. Nemec has been a combination of some really good stuff and some stuff that clearly needs some refining and he needs to get up to speed on.

If we’re comfortable enough that Nemec can hold his own defensively and offers more than Miller he should start as the 3RD IMO. And I think that’s fully up for debate and something they should be watching the rest of preseason.

I’ve been a long time believer that AHL (or other lesser league) development is massively overrated. I think it’s better for his development to be playing 3RD in jersey than 1D in Utica.

All that being said I think they acquired Miller to be 3RD and he’s gonna start the season there regardless of how preseason goes.

I think that was a lot less of a skating issue and more of a defensive and space misjudgement

It's not a difference that makes or break the team or even really comes close to that. Nemec over Miller is a ceiling booster for the team. It really doesn't matter much for the regular season because regardless of who is playing there the team should make it. If they deem that playing in the AHL for most of the year is better for him than being the 6D then that's what you do. Don't care about how maybe we'd be like a 100 pt team with Miller and a 110 pt team with Nemec if they don't think that's optimizing his development.

On the flip side if they think Nemec is worse than Miller but think Nemec is better off being the 6D than in Utica then that's what you do. The 6D on this team is not going to make or break their playoff chances.

Hopefully they’re good enough regardless where it’s not their playoff chances but it certainly could have a big impact especially if some guys get hurt and someone had to play up the lineup. That 3RD could be an important top 4 guy pretty quick.

Also that ceiling booster is pretty important and you mentioned bringing Nemec up later on before the playoffs. If you think Nemec gives you a better chance in the playoffs you start playing from the off of the season. Would much rather have a 19 year old dman in the playoff with the whole season under his belt than one who just played the final stretch of the season and could still be adjusting.

It absolutely matters who gives us a better chance of winning. I think that’s the most important question and I think that completely comes down to whether we think Nemec is ready to be an NHL player. If we do, he offers more than Miller and as I said it’s better for his development to be in the NHL.

You keep calling it a 6D but a main part of my point is that Nemec has potential to be much better than a 6D right off the hope if he’s ready and have a much bigger impact.

Yeah Miller kind of sucking so far is an unexpected wrinkle, I assumed he would be vaguely solid.

Maybe he’ll be fine, it takes a while for defensemen to settle in.

Nah, it wasn't that play. I just didn't see quickness or top end speed one would expect from a player of his qualities. He seems very clunky skating.
