Went back in the 2022 Draft GDT a few weeks ago and chuckled a little bit. Many were so convinced we were getting Slaf or Wright that they totally dismissed an elite RD D-man and claimed it was a bad pick.

Yeah. I was totally surprised. Even when I didnt want Wright hardly.

Im rooting for him too, but now Im not so high on sharks as a team for him, they are very terrible and have 4 scrubds 30+yo on contracts and cant use Shaq as NHLer from the start of the season. AHL is a joke for him. I dont know what they are thinking about. They should trade players.

I get people being sad that Montreal took Slaf so we didn't have the choice, but being made we passed on Wright I never got. Dude was getting passed on for good reason.

I was pretty happy with getting either Slaf or either of the two Slov Dmen.

Only reason it slipped by me is because it wasn't really a "Fitz" pick. I was convinced if Slaf went 1st, they would go with Gauthier. Big, power forward who has an elite shot. Fits exactly what Fitz wanted. Also, when I say it wasn't a Fitz pick, I mean that he's shown to go for players that fit a need, so it certainly surprised me.

Do playoff games count towards ELC slides? Ideally we wouldn't have to bring him up basically all year and the bring him up for the last handful and into the playoffs and slide him again. I don't see that happening though.

Yeah Nemec looks to be doing the Mercer preseason special, he looks so much better than our other 6th/7th D candidates.

So far all of Clarke, Thompson and Foote look very unimpressive, which could increase Holtz's chances of making the team.

Right? Might still be sent down. Injuries will happen and he will be the first call up. If that happens, he may drive his stake in the ground right then and there.

Wasn't there some rumors 2-3 days before the draft that the Habs were leaning towards Slaf? I thought most of us here realised that we might not get Slaf at the draft.

Remember guys, We drafted Mukhamadullin because the Rangers did a trade to get Schneider right before our pick.


I'm very depressed that we don't have Schneider right now.

Schneider has regressed since he came into the league. There's a decent chance Mukh could be the better player when its all done.

The problem is he is the best defenseman on the ice today and he was great in this preseason. And when people thought he was a draft for needs, he was exactly draft for BPA, especially in devils situation when Cooley was blocked by Nico and Jack as center.

I really hope they will give him some opportunity from the start or at least will give him a couple of month to polish some parts of his game and will try him as NHLer before Christmas if he is ready. If he will play full season in AHL, it will not hurt, but from the perspective of the future play off, I want best players on the ice. I know its too danger to use two rookie defensemen. But I dont think that couple of Makars or couple of Heiskanens would hurt Colorado or Dallas in their early runs.
