Luke leads the league in xGF/60 the past 10 and is only a tenth of a pt behind Barkov for the league lead in xGF%. Even with how great he was defensively to start the year the numbers look even better recently. I imagine that's largely because he's been spending more time at the other end now. I welcome my new Scott Niedermayer overlord
We have these 2 brothers on the team for a long time, blessings.

But actually it was never what you’d call a “close game.” They were piling up a lot of shots but it felt like we were controlling it from the drop of the puck.

I would have loved to see us just keep skating them into oblivion as we did in the first and get the knockout earlier than we got it. You shouldn’t try to sit on a 2 goal first period lead, but it’s not a situation we’ve been in all that much. Their piling up the shots on us reflected that.

Hamilton gifting them that 2 man short handed breakaway was a hairy moment. But when they blew that and Dougie scores on the 5 on 3 you knew the game was over.

Stan Fischler saying that the 3 goal lead is the worst lead in hockey notwithstanding.

I hear you, but I think that was a bit of an illusion provided bc Markstrom handled some pretty tricky deflections like the elite goalie he's supposed to be, and we got a Panarin post and etc.

I'm not denying that we seemed to dominate play much of the game, and that the game-o-meter wasn't pretty tilted in our favor - but there were a couple of really excellent stops in the second and third that Dano and Bill just yammered over whilst I was cringing.

We did great. I'm pleased as can be. And now I want more bc there was definitely stuff to address. And alot of it is just inexperience.

Just saying - if we want to win a cup. We need to be like last year's Florida, or Carolina, and just SHUT SHIT DOWN.

Rangers only looked dangerous during their PP and the few mins after their PP. Thats their bread and butter.

Devils were in control other than that.

But I agree, lots of things to work on. But the commitment shown tonight to do whatever it takes to win is encouraging. Those blocked shots, selling out late in shifts to get the puck put of the zone. Good team building shit.

Amen. Loved it.

Agree - Definitely the game could have gone the other way half a dozen times before we got the third goal. We went passive and let them hang around after Jacks break away and when you do that it will come back to bite you sooner or later. We needed to stay as aggressive as when we started the game.

Obv very happy w the result and even more so with that clown Valiquette getting roundly pounded, what a plug.

That was a sloppy game though and playing 31/32 teams that game could’ve been very different. Extremely lax on the PP and in the D zone in general. Lots of blind passes.

I love it. Here's your receipt, Vally.

And the Garden erupted almost as loud as when Rempe dumps a puck in.

lol Their insane boosting of Kakko had to be purely psychological. Not to say Kakko wasn't great his DY because he really was but I mean c'mon Jack was always the clear #1. They were subconsciously pumping up Kakko to the absurd degree they did while simultaneously tearing down Jack because they knew Jack was never a real option for them.
I'm probably wrong about this 'cause I forgot what his projection was ( @StevenToddIves perhaps remembers?) but to me, Crappo ceiling is that of a 2nd-liner. That's it.

In his DY people thought he could come in at like 60-70 pts and it wasn't really a wild thought at the time. Right now I still think there's a potential 1st line talent in there. Obviously not the star he was projected to be. He's producing well at 5v5 this year and has been a solid defensive player for a while. I think he's currently a 2nd line talent

They would've creamed their pants if they had 1, Jack would've been their best center since Messier. If you flipped the picks at 1+2, no one would've made a single peep about Kakko from NJ's side. Funny thing is he's probably a better player here in NJ too. Chances are the Devils go after a Danault type before he went to LAK in 2021 if they drafted Kakko

He's a good player on the wrong team, I would take him on NJ and stick him next to Bratt/Jack and watch them cook. He needs to get out of NY ASAP to save himself, he'll never live up to the expectations. It's Nichuskin in Dallas 2.0

Yeah I think he'd be really good here right now. Kakko's looked pretty solid in the middle too. I really wouldn't mind the guy as the long term 3C if his play were to keep up in the middle. Replace one Finnish two way 3C with the next lol

Thing is if we had number 2 in 2019 and take Kakko, we probably go back to Finland and take Lundell in 2020 with the Holtz pick as well. And I would trade for him if I were Fitz, Drury is probably going to lose his shit here very soon with how bad he melted NYR

From what has been leaked at least I think Drury's located the (obvious) problems and it'd be more proactive than panicked but I think moving Kakko would be a more panicked move. Kakko as a Devil is the most hilarious outcome after all the shit that's been flung his way by Devils fans. The only potential move the Rangers could make that has me kind of a bit spooked for this season is if they were able to snag Miller for scraps

Kakko is arb eligible at season's end and is potentially a UFA in 2026. He's just not going to be there much longer, I don't think.
