Why are you dumping on Bergen County to defend NJ? Some people on this board grew up in Bergen County.

Sorry if you didn’t live conveniently near NYC (while having mountains and lakes too) but congrats on being nearer to larger tracts of farmland or whatever.
Yeah I really don't get why Billdo said that to make a point.

Many of us live in Bergen county.

Hey, there will be no in-NJ fighting in the GDT!

I know it’s getting off topic, but outside of JC, and hoboken, what’s the nicest town in the north jersey area? I’m from Kearny and thinking of moving somewhere else in the area. I’ve thought of morristown, but have never been there.

I don't honestly think we're trying to trade him.

Maybe if we were out of it at the deadline or closer to the deadline and some team needed the goalie depth. Especially if we knew we weren't gonna bring him back next year.

But in that case, it might mean he had a really bad season and there wouldn't be much interest in him anyway, although Keith Kinkaid was traded during a really bad season and to a team that didn't even play him one stinkin game after trading for him. So anything can happen.

I think Bernier is too much of a liability to really rely on. We'd probably need to see at least 5-6 games from him at the NHL level if we're really willing to trade Blackwood and rely on Bernier to contribute as a backup for the rest of the year.

And honestly, Fitz might know that after extending Vanecek 3 years and knowing he's locked up for the next 2 years, he might already be leaning towards knowing he's gonna have to do away with Blackwood, especially if he can't get and stay above .900%.

It depends on when Bernier comes off the LTIR and how plays is in his conditioning stint and after.

We likely aren’t keeping 3 goalies on the roster too long even with Palat on the LTIR, injuries tend to make that difficult after a while.

The worse Bernier looks the easier it is for him to get through waivers but there’s a big need for goaltending around the league.

Morristown area is great: Morris Twp, Madison, Chatham, Harding, Florham Park.

Moved out here from Jersey City 5 years ago and love it.

I half kiddingly alluded to this possibility in my initial post...because there's no other reason that makes sense as to why a presumed healthy Vanecek sits two games in a row on the back of a three-game winning streak, this isn't some machevallian plot from Lindy to have Blackwood 'take the beating' in Edmonton, coaches don't think like that anywhere, even in baseball where sending out a pitcher to take a beating has more merit over a 162-game season.

The main paranoia freakout possibility (besides the Bleedism of 'the organization wanting to make Blackwood a thing') is they're hiding some minor (?) injury to Vanecek.

Agreed because you would think going into Vancouver game that the rationale could be that "save Vanecek for the better teams" but with Edmonton is going to be the best team we play with Calgary still trying to figure themselves out with that loss to Seattle the other night. But starting Blackwood tonight makes no sense in any rationale, lol.

It is funny how the Devils' perception seems to have come full circle. For years it was people complaining about the trap when they weren't doing it more than anyone else in the league. Now a lot of people seem to be hearing about all the chances they're generating and assuming the Devils are just trading chances both ways every night like it's shinny.

Thinly veiled brag, "I grew up in Tewksbury" "I lived in a mansion"

Just ball busting of course! I grew up in Chester, so not far at all from there. I long ago gave up on the uninformed opinions of NJ as a whole. People don't know how good we really have it here, aside from the taxes.
LOL I wish. I was a cashier at the Chester shoprite and was unceremoniously fired for eating food from the hot bar and not paying for it…but I digress😂

People here slagging Bergen County and Canada, two delightful lands full of delightful (and apparently at times insecure) people.

Anyway. Back to endless arguing about two goalies like they’re somehow different.

It is absolutely a hilarious thought that someone would PAY us to get Blackwood or Vanecek

I've come around on the idea that Blackwood is here to stay this year unless he becomes completely unplayable. Even then I don't know what they do, goaltending market is so illiquid in-season.

I think it's very likely though they try and upgrade him in the offseason v. extend him, the marriage seems strained.

I currently live in the burbs equidistant between downtown Morristown and Madison, and it’s Heaven.

Blackwood likely wouldn't clear if he were waived, as he's on an expiring contract (and not for too many dollars) and he's only 25 and teams like taking a flyer on these reclamation projects (like the Leafs signing Samsonov) especially when he's still fairly young and showed upside, even if if it was several years ago to this point.

I think Bernier would clear waivers, due to his salary, but all it takes is one goalie getting injured right around the time he's waived and someone could swoop in and make a claim. He's also on an expiring contract, even though he's making a few more dollars than Blackwood is.

Vanecek is going nowhere. Fitz just signed him for 3 years and he's on the book for 2 more years after this. Which to me is all the more reason to see what he's got.

Anyone know why the broadcast team didn't travel for this road trip?

Is this still some Covid-related policy, cutting costs...?

Didn't really seem to be an issue the other night, though I do wonder if they miss some things just watching the game off a monitor vs. being there live.

For each dumpy city, NJ is full of 10x as many awesome places of all sorts in all the counties. Having a county stigmatized by a select city is so stupid. They dont represent the whole county and certainly not the state. Thats what i get a kick out of when i read out of state comments particularly.

Essex, Morris, Bergen, Sussex, Somerset etc etc etc

Plenty of really nice places to live around here.

The only real thing that bothers me is the high taxes... And some of the dopey political landscape. But all political landscapes are dopey. Haha.

True but i was entertaining myself with the thought of an actual trade and getting something else in return besides a free round of golf for Fitz, i mean future considerations

I'm wondering the same thing.

I'm pretty sure our broadcasters traveled on the road last year, at least for MOST of the year. They may have kept them back during the omicron surge. I don't think any teams broadcast crews traveled the year before.

But some teams didn't send their broadcasters last year. The Sharks didn't for much of the year, although they did for some games/road trips. I noticed during a Rangers road game last week that Sam and Joe were calling the game from the studio as well.

Not sure if this is a cost cutting thing or what. Perhaps MSG pays to have our guys sent out there (like their hotels and per diems, as they have been travelling on the team plane since Lou has been gone) and doesn't wanna pay anymore? Not sure.
