Very few coaches make changes after a win outside of goal, and Blackwood played well enough last game so I really don't mind him getting the nod. If he gets roasted, so be it. then we have any easy excuse for a loss and Vanecek will get another opportunity so everyone wins.
Vanecek should've gotten an opportunity after giving up just 1 goal in the past two games.

You could say that Blackwood playing last game could be just a way to give Vitek a day off but what's the excuse now?

Mac was still shaky at times the last outing and this was against a crappy 'Nucks team.

Playing Vitek tonight would've been the better option but Lindy is just asking for it by going to the well one too many times here.

Blackwood is gonna get lit up and I don't hate that honestly.
Blackwood is a better goalie than Vanecek, so I wouldn't hope he gets lit up. I'm sure he'll give up 5+ like every other goalie does against Edmonton and then we can all act like it's unique to Blackwood and he sucks.

Why so pessimistic Glenwo? That’s not your style usually! We need some positive vibes in here! Team is playing well and Mac is off a nice start against Vancouver! We got this! And if they lose while giving a good effort, it’s still a step in the right direction!

You know what?

You're right.

Until the clock reads 0:00 after 3 periods, I'm going to be hopeful that the Devils can pull off the MIRACLE with
Blackwood in net.

(I at least want Bratt to get the record before the game is over, win or lose, though)

Yeah, not sure about that. I don’t think Mac is that far behind Vitek, but their play in the last few seasons begs to differ. Curious as to why you think that though. What would make you pick Mac before Vitek?

Point to a single tangible stat that shows that Vanecek is better than Blackwood. If you want to use basic save percentage, Blackwood is better. Vanecek has allowed more goals above expected than Blackwood.

Vanecek has the second worst HDSV% in the entire NHL. The only guy worse is Matt Murray with one game played. Blackwood is #8 in the entire league in HDSV% ahead of guys like Shesterkin, Demko, and Sorokin.

But sure, let's throw Vanecek in there against McDavid and Draisaitl because we simply don't like Blackwood. It's backup QB syndrome.

Because Vanecek had 3 great games, him sitting twice is silly. And we’ve seen Mac for years, we know what we have with him. Would be nice to give the hot goalie who is still a question mark a longer leash.

Mike White should really be starting though

Vitek is not a world-beater by any stretch but he *IS* better than Blackwood...RIGHT NOW.

And RIGHT NOW he is not playing against a team that we need dependable goaltending against

3 great games? He could have kicked his feet up and taken a nap against Columbus and Detroit. Columbus had 1 high danger scoring chance that entire game and it wound up in the back of the net.

Mackenzie Blackwood is the key to this team's upside. Vanecek can be a league average goalie, but he's nothing more. When Mac is healthy he can be a gamechanger. They need to get him into a rhythm because he's the guy with the potential to steal games.

Under no metric is he better than Blackwood right now (other than people holding grudges against Blackwood for various reasons). Vanecek is a 1B that you hopefully rely on to make the expected saves, but he's not a true 1A.

HEY IT'S GAME DAY. What about those lineups. McDavid gonna get shut down by Marino tonight?!
We're talking about the lineup. The most important part of the lineup.

By that standard Vanecek would be playing his fifth straight game. I don’t get this, are we trying to prop up Blackwood’s trade value now?

That's fair. I don't have a good answer for why we keep running Blackwood out there. I guess they still see him as the 1A, and don't think either goalie has run away with the job yet.

I mean. That’s even more a reason to play him. The Goalie just won you 3 games and wasn’t tested much in game 3. Why rest a goalie who gave up little in 3 games and wasn’t overworked is beyond me. I’d rather ride the streaking goalie with a rest here and there until the hot streak ends. Then go with the other goalie.

They're running Blackwood out there because he's better and he's the guy with the upside to be elite when he's healthy. You're not going to get him into a rhythm sitting him down every other game. It's really that simple.

Because Vanecek is decent but nothing special and you're playing arguably the most lethal offense in the NHL. Why wouldn't you put your best player out there?

At the game tonight and Saturday. The Oilers game is always a blast. Highlight was a few years back when Dano came to meet my buddy and I in the parking lot before the game. Guy let me wear his 2000 cup ring!

Best in game Edmonton moment was a 2-1 OT win. Kovalchuk to Elias to Parise for the OT winner! Bratt's breakaway goal last year is a solid memory too.

This year, I'm pumped to see prime Nico. Going to be awesome watching Marino and Sieg go up against McDrai as well.

Pulling out the signed Brodeur jersey for this one. LGD!

Last two years of stats does not back up Mac being the better goalie.
