This is a game where not only "staying out of the box" is crucial but STAYING AT HOME ON DEFENSE is crucial as well.

Devils cannot give 2-on-1's to this team.

'Cause more often than not, they will result into goals-against.

This feels like *the* biggest game of the season thus far.

Holtz hasnt shown anything to earn time over anyone else really, he should just go to Utica so he can play regularly

Yes I agree. I wouldn’t be opposed to letting him get one more game in just to see if it clicks after watching the past several games from the stands, but you’re right. He doesn’t really deserve to be in the lineup as of right now, and if he’s not going to play, send him to Utica.

"Nothing really stands out for me here with this squad. Good defensively by EC standards. I sure wouldn't pay money to see this bunch of Jespers."
I was also lurking earlier and one of them said they went to a wedding in Jersey and it was “a pit” which of course makes me irrationally angry. I can’t stand when people who don’t live here besmirch our beautiful garden state😾😡

I don't love the idea of rushing back to Blackwood here
Between the comments both he and Ruff made in the post game, which implied he probably would have played at least once in the last week if he weren’t “Nursing” his “Elbow”, I was pretty sure he was gonna play today.

And I was actually pretty blindsided by him playing Vancouver. I didn’t think he’d even play that game. That game and the Columbus game were the only two times this season I was extremely confident he was not going to play.

Like I said, the organization really wants him to happen and literally if he has a good game (like against Vancouver) it’ll give him even more rope.

I do think if he gets blown up a lot, we’ll see him less, but it’s clear they’re not gonna let him sit long, no matter how well the other guy is playing.

And I’m sure if he gets blown up tonight his defenders will say that it was all McDavid and these guys are really good.

looks like the same lineup and Blackwood starting

I wonder what Brendan SMith has to do to sit tbh lol

Maybe it's a "we're winning, so don't change what works" thing. Ruff may be superstitious like that.

I don't think that's any sensible way to run a hockey team, but that's my guess as to the mentality. Once we lose (or have injuries), the coaching staff will make changes.

Makes sense he'd at least stay with the team on the Western Canada trip, in case of injuries. After Saturday night though, the Devils don't leave the Northeast again until December 20th/21st trip to Carolina & Florida. Team can go short a player and easily recall one from Utica if needed then. Comets don't play again after this weekend until next Friday, so I'd imagine Holtz would still stay up with the team at least until then.

Surprised to see Blackwood getting the nod again tonight...hopefully it pays off.

Which is odd because going to weddings is how most visitors to NJ actually see nice parts of the state as opposed to just refineries by the Turnpike

Bit worried about this one. Edmonton is playing well and we are due to drop one.

Plus I don't think we have done well in this building lately
We actually played pretty well in our game there last season. Goalies shat the bed though, we were leading early in the 3rd if I remember correctly.

Well...at least we'll see how this new and improved team handles being down multiple goals. :whatever:

Is Lindy planning to play Vitek in BOTH Calgary games?

This constant ass-kissing of Blackwood is going to get Lindy and eventually, Fitz, fired at this rate.

Stubborn f'n mules....

Rolled the dice once against Vancouver and got a favorable roll.

Rolling the dice AGAIN against Edmonton?

I don't like our chances.

Well then we have the perfect goaltender to "shat the bed" then.

Looks like I'm going to be looking for silver linings in this more-than-likely LOSS tonight.

Sigh....

(at the very least, I hope Bratt breaks the record so I can have THAT).

By that standard Vanecek would be playing his fifth straight game. I don’t get this, are we trying to prop up Blackwood’s trade value now?

What wedding did he go to? A trailer-park?

Weddings are done at churchs in the Most beautiful locations.

I don't think he ever was at a NJ Wedding and is just someone in Canada staying in his mom's basement.

Huge test, would love to get a point from this game but given how McDrai are playing it’s going to be very tough. Staying out the box is the key here.
Oh definitely.

Which is why I fear Smith playing tonight 'cause I know he's "good" for at least one bonehead penalty from time to time.

Very few coaches make changes after a win outside of goal, and Blackwood played well enough last game so I really don't mind him getting the nod. If he gets roasted, so be it. then we have any easy excuse for a loss and Vanecek will get another opportunity so everyone wins.

Ruff seems firmly in the "not broken, don't fix it" stage with the lineup.

I've been pulling for Blackwood as much , or more, than most since having two guys you can rely in is a big benefit in a long season. But I'm wary of him starting this one since he gets exposed by shooters who can snipe top corners, and EDM's offense is rolling.

And Holtz needs playing time. If it's not going to happen here, let him take reps in Utica for God's sake.

Why so pessimistic Glenwo? That’s not your style usually! We need some positive vibes in here! Team is playing well and Mac is off a nice start against Vancouver! We got this! And if they lose while giving a good effort, it’s still a step in the right direction!
