Through six games we have mostly eliminated the Big Mistakes that dogged us last year. The absolutely blown coverages that repeated themselves sometimes five to six times a game and that had people all alone in front of our net with oodles of time.

That's a big difference. We seem to be in position and on the right side of the puck even when we do make mistakes, they aren't of the same catastrophic sort.
Hi, Camille the Eel, how are you doing? I agree with your post 100%. Totally different team, coaching and play than last season. .much more acceptable this season. Later

as much as i love Tatar, this is a kind of game where he is exposed. not sure he won one board battle tonight and was easily neutralized.

i wouldn’t mind trying

Bratt-Hughes-Noesen/Cotter
Meier-Nico-Mercer

as a top 6 and then figure out whatever the hell the bottom 6 is gonna do

i do think they are gonna give meier hughes bratt at least 10 games to sort their shit out and see if they can get used to playing together

I think Cotter makes more sense as he skates much better than Noesen.

I don't know if I believe this whole scheduling rested vs tired theory. I think this game looked a lot like every Devils Canes game in the past 5 years or so. Put Vanecek etc on goal and this is 7-2 blow out loss. They completely dominated us the whole game and it was painful to watch. I'm sure we get a lot better once the team gels together and learns the new coaching system, but to me this game showed that we are still far away from the top teams. And unlike the Leafs game the team didn't look off, I don't think they made huge mistakes, they just couldn't handle the Canes pressure.

I'm not sure every player on that line has to be fast. There's plenty of speed between Jack and Jesper. Noeson could trail and be a netfront presence while digging picks out from the boards. It's a combo that may be worth trying at some point.

Watching Carolina last night the one line that pushed them back was Jack's when he or Bratt had the puck on the breakout. I'd like to keep them as fast as possible but your suggestion also makes sense.

Tiny little lump in my throat that my doctor thought should be looked at. I had a biopsy waiting on the results.
Pretty damn scared truth be told.
OK, hang in there. It's nothing you can control so do what you can to distract yourself while waiting for the results. You know we are all in your corner. Can you get out for some fishing or hunting to clear your mind?

Meier can be, but I don’t see it. I guess we agree to disagree. I also wouldn’t call Nico a rugged player. He’s definitely a gutsy player.
To this point, would love to see Nico more aggressive in terms of physicality, what he seems to be is very willing to go into dirty areas. And I think a good part of his success is he is able to win battles in those areas. But he doesn't dole out much punishment.

But I think we may overrate what other top 6 guys bring in this dept. Meier is very likely upper echelon in terms of top 6 fwds in this regard.

Just got back from the game.

I don't understand why we have to wait until we're losing to play Casey on a regular shift, especially with how Dougie and Dillon were playing.

Nemec needs more AHL seasoning.
Dillon needs a demotion

Casey - Pesce
Siegs - Hamilton
Dillon - Kovacevic
Casey has no business getting his ice time doubled

Watching Carolina absolutely bully the Nemec - Casey pair all night was super hard to watch. Definitely showed they can hang, but they shouldn't be paired together.

There's no reason he can't play 18-20 mins, especially if he's not getting left out to dry defensively by his partner for half the night. He's played extremely well defensively despite the fancy stats.

Nemec has been a boat anchor most of the year and keeps getting caught up ice. Casey has had to defend like a dozen odd man rushes already.

8 minutes without?

Good bet those are almost nearly all offensive zone faceoffs with the Dev's trailing.

The 55 minutes with Nemec is a small sample, but the 8 minutes without is a blip.

Edit: Also should be noted Nemec is above 50% without Casey. In 26 minutes.

Yeah, very true. At this point, advanced stats aren't really giving any meaningful information vs the eye test.

But just from the eye test, Nemec has been extremely poor defensively except for maybe 1.5 games. His timing on jumping up into the play has been brutal, and has forced Casey to sit back a bunch while defending on his own.

I'd love to see how Casey looks with a more steady defensive partner. Keefe has been very impressed with Casey's defensive play.

The TOI and deployment say otherwise.
