So this is a definitive thing that we're actually running with now? Good to know!

While I agree it’s a bit much there is something to just running Jack and Luke out there over and over again despite the lack of success. Clearly Jack is limited and Luke is still learning and it’s unfair to both of them but they have been played too much in spots . I get that they have nobody if Jack is sent for surgery/rehab but in Luke’s case they have other players they could try and it’s just been a rough slog.

However you want to put it...whether they're running the organization or 'merely' catered to like someone else said, the organization has to start putting its foot down and be a father figure, rather than an enabling buddy.
There's a huge difference between saying players should be held accountable and claiming they're running the organization lol.

I think the distinction is important, and I actually agree with one of the two statements.

Either way let Fitz and his next coach prove the criticism wrong or outdated at least.

Can we stop acting like highly skilled or elite players are held to the same standard as lesser players on every team except ours? Yeah, no shit Jack Hughes does things that would get others benched. Is this really news?

I agree Luke needs a break, but jumping to the conclusion the Hughes brothers run the organization because they don't get benched for mistakes is a bit much, even for this fanbase.

All this will go away when Jack and Luke will play solid hockey again, which is most likely in October 2024.

If the Hughes bros aren't "running the org", somebody above them would shut them down for the rest of the season. It's over so what's the point of them continuing to play like utter trash every night?

Problem with that is this mediocre East is ensuring the Devils have an excuse to say it's 'not' over...although the players themselves have mostly played like it for weeks.

Why would Luke be shut down? Playing is how you get better, and he should continue to play. I think we’re starting to massively overstate Luke’s struggles now. The whole team sucks, and he’s had his issues, but he’s having a fine rookie year.

Jack shouldn’t play another second though and should take care of whatever injury he has.

I honestly don’t want to see this team without Luke on the left side - I could only imagine how much worse we would be if we took out one of our only two good retrieval/exit players willingly.

I think we'll have at least another year of growing pains with Luke.

Of course if the team is going well he'll produce more, making people forgive more....but his game is still very rough around the edges.

Sure, I still expect him to be a positive player for us.

Growing pains and the rookie wall were expected by everyone at the start of the season, until it happened, now it's the end of the world.

He's not even playing that poorly. His struggles have been massively exaggerated the last 2 weeks.

I’d give him a little less responsibility to give him a bit of a break in game. He’s clearly hit the wall. Players will never do anything but try to play and at some point the grownups have to protect them from themselves when it’s appropriate.

Yeah the defense is a mess but they’ve been completely impotent on offense since Green took over. I don’t have the metrics , maybe someone can post them, but it’s been noticeably bad.
I know that a lot of Vancouver fans have commented on how he ruins offense...

But he really had a mandate to come in here and stop the goals bleeding we have seen all season.

Maybe it is actually indictive of Green's coaching style but here he had to end the unlimited odd man rushes and defensive breakdowns. I actually think he's gotten a handle on that

He might be trying to do that but I don’t think it’s happening. We’re just getting some saves now during our usual adventures on defense. Allen has been fantastic in his two games despite the mess in front of him and Kakhonen was as well in his first game when he was completely under siege.

Bring Lindy back, get Green out of here holy shit this guy sucks.
We’ve still got Lindy under contract right? What a hoot that would be.

Honestly this melt down is what I feared would happen if we fired him when we did. What little confidence we had left was finished. Remember how Nico looked that following morning when he first met with the media. It was inevitable when we replaced him with Green, who is one of the authors of the mess. We took away a guy whom the players generally respected and believed in, and whom they were still buying in for, and didn’t provide someone to create new belief.

Then earlier everyone was screaming for the system to change, tighten up defensively, no more flying the zone. Myself included. But what happened? Just what happened in similar circumstances in Hynes’ final days when we decided to turtle down. Generating maybe 20 shots a game happened. Scoring maybe one goal a couple of games running happened, time and again. It turned out Lindy’s whacky system was helping us generate what offense we had.

For the total collapse of our power play since the Holidays, however, I have no explanations. Certainly the coaching staff should have been able to improve on that.

Fitzgerald has a lot of work to do this coming off season. It feels like in some ways we are starting over again.
