It’s a difference of annoyance vs pissed off. This game is massively annoying because it’s a game they should not lose. The Caps game I was pissed off the whole time because they looked like shit and had no business winning or ever felt like they could win.

They won’t get shutout much this year but I do think their puck play has been sub par for a lot of this year and has been a problem that has popped up a lot more than there being problems defensively
They puck play has been fine in the last week and a half, it's a work and progress, but I'm seeing encouraging things with this group. Tonight was weird, they absolute weren't clicking, but I saw the puck bouncing on both ends a lot tonight. Ice looked gross.

Also i would be shocked if this team is playing poorly offensively more nights then not.

The issue was always whether they could play good consistent D and get saves.

An off night where the offense doesn't have it to me just isn't concerning.
Especially when the defense and goaltending were solid.

I think poor puck play is just Ruff stuff that is going to take Keefe some time to completely iron out of these guys.

I do think you can see the progress and I'm confident he will get them fully there. He doesn't come off as someone who would let them be careless a full 82

I think the offense being poor more often than not could be a troubling thing because while I do think defensively they’ve largely been good and will continue to be I don’t trust the goaltending enough yet.

I don’t see how the puck play is a Ruff thing considering that was a strength under him. It generally hasn’t been a problem of making risky plays that turn the other way into great chances against. It’s more not handling the puck well and not making clean passes

The offensive production has been good all year though, don't think there needs to be some worry about that.

And outside the 13 game winning streak, they played .524 hockey. This team is at .571 right now. Hitting a streak at some point will put them back in that 100+ point realm. Every team that puts up that many points has a longish streak at some point.

This would’ve been a great time to go on a run. Already won 2 games. Had a weak Calgary team. McDavid-less Oilers. Awful Habs and Sharks teams. Also the Isles. Could’ve rattled off 7 straight. Time to make it 6 of 7

Should of gotten a loser point from this game. They had some good chances to go up 1 - 0 and that would of changed the game big time if they did.

Luke and Pesce haven't been a bad pairing but we need to see some points from them and less games where they don't go -1 or 0. Luke only has 1 point in 5 games and Pesce has 0. Luke not being on the top PP unit factors into that but still.

This needs to happen at some point this season or we are just a frustrating bubble team at best. Nice way to start off a new month.

Reminds me of last season. A couple of good games followed by a terrible stinker. Again missed a chance to get on a roll. Same old story, same old story.
Look at it at face value and in real time that's what's it's been. It's why there is so much frustrating and negativity with this fanbase. We are given reason to believe that this team can't get out of it's own way. Still a long way to go and more opportunities but....

Unless I missed it in an earlier post nobody wants to address the elephant in the room.

Lonborg plasters a Devils player against the boards, Bastian half-heartedly goes in to "stand up" for a teammate, and Lonborg demolishes him.

After that the Devils pretty much play perimeter hockey - going nowhere near the hard areas. The Devils, with all their speed and skill, had 14 shots on goal into the third period.

For all the window dressing of adding players that are "harder to play against" this is basically the same Devils team playing "little boy" hockey in a game that still has a hard, physical "grown up" aspect to it.

You completely imagined that. They had trouble generating anything all game —nothing changed after the hit. Neither team did much before the lucky deflection.

It would have been a different game if Hughes connected on one of those breakaways, pure luck or unluckiness however you want to look at it. West coast hockey is never easy, however we still have to look out for a playoff grit and heart player on this team. The GM will have to tinker with this team. We need that player with a little mean streak.

Caught the second half of the gm. Looked like they didn’t have their legs which impacted the offense but they played a good D game. Onto Edmonton.
Season is over. They had a nice run but now it’s gone. And Lovejoy isn’t around to rescue them. They are led by a third liner and a toddler who wears diapers. Sell now to avoid the deadline rush. Get rid of Keefe and Fitz and let @Cheddabombs ovefsee the long overdue rebuild. Maybe they get lucky and some team will take Jack in a trade before his bad attitude gets noticed around the league. This team makes thr NY Jets look like a well run and successful team.

It’s my pleasure to roast Siegenthaler, but he was clear form any wrong doing on that play IMO. The bad pinch by Kovy led to that 2 on 1. Frustrating game bc I stayed up to watch. I miss primetime Jack.
It’s the defenseman’s job to take away the pass on a two on one and seigenthaler failed to take away the pass 2 times on the same two on one

Rewatched that bas lomberg clip.

Lomberg is quite the POS. He basically started punching Bastian as he was not even facing him and didn't even let the guy square up. Bastian didn't even have a chance to square up, he was facing the glass.

Ridiculous setup and I am a little surprised both the team didn't step up more, and also the refs let it play out like that. He got like 5 shots in like that.

Plus the head crunch on cotter while he was already in the boards.

I'm kinda pissed about the whole outcome of that.

Siegenthaler was obviously banged up and I have absolutely no idea why he and Kovacevic were out there down 1-0. I hope that was going to be their last shift.

I don’t see much reason to be worried.

They were in it despite not being very good. Then the Coleman goal is a tricky one, the Huberdeau goal is maybe one you want back but they were pressing.

I’d rather see them address what they were bad at, which they are, rather than assume their strengths won’t be there or are muted under Keefe.

Do they look like a contender? Not yet but they’re doing the things they need to get there.

The league should pass a third man in rule on checking. That’s twice now we’ve seen a guy get hit by a second guy while already engaged with someone. Lazar needed surgery and Cotter was hit up high. Hopefully someone on another team gets hurt very publicly and the idiots in charge will take that out of the game. Right now it’s just one more tactic to add to the sociopath arsenal.
