Very, very mid period, but Calgary didn't generate much at all. They ended it fine though. Hopefully they can pick up on that.

And Rempe hurt one guy last year without MacDermid on the ice and one guy with him. These guys aren’t ‘deterrents’ at all, at best they act as mutually assured destruction
Because it’s not about fighting. It’s not like MacDermid would grab Lomberg and pummel him. That’s against the code. What has to happen is Bastian needs to brain Lonberg with another cheap shot. That’s how you even it up. The refs suck and the league is trying to get all the players killed. The old time hockey approach is old .

And that is only by going after their stars in response. No one cares about going after the goon who made the dirty hit because they are expendable.

(I.e. they should have responded to Rempe by going after Panarin)

Ebbs and flows, Flames came in with the butt's on fire after being embarrassed by Utah and had the energy and that showed. Ever since they lost their two their stars a couple years ago they've been playing simple high energy hockey. It's a playstyle that works but I expect them to tire out over the next two periods.

The Devils started getting better the closer to the end of the period, they should better going into the 2nd.

Its the first period. Still a lot of hockey to go.

Calgary crowd has been dead with the exception of the fight. The Flames haven't done much either.

I am glad we are not losing.

The lack of offense was pathetic, but it wasn't a defensive meltdown with a bailout from markstrom.

I'd rather lose a 1st period 0 offense to half a goal worth of offense than to get shelled 1.5xGoals to 3

Anyways back to the ranch.

The ice is awful and the Devils look like a bad football offense trying to hit 40 yards passes into a driving wind and going 3 and out as a result. They need to focus on completing shorter passes before trying to stretch Calgary out.

0.58-0.2

0.2 xgoals in a period is pathetic but not getting shelled
NST has us at 0.45 xGF and CGY at 0.58 xGF. Answer is probably somewhere in the middle. They at least limited CGY pretty good.

Our xGF climbed up significantly at the end of the period. Just have to keep pushing.
