I might be missing something here but...

ESPN+ is a US only streaming service, so NHL.TV only got retired for US viewers. It should still work outside US unless there's something quirky with Australia/New Zealand region.

ESPN purchased NHL streaming rights in all its broadcasting territories, which includes Australia and New Zealand. For example in Latin America the NHL package is now on a Disney owned app called Star+.

OK, so I got the fetch thing to work on my computer. Won't work on my phone, but that's another story (I need to delete my samsung account and create a new one for Australia, because right now my account says Canada). I decided to check out the Habs/Leafs game. It won't let me start from beginning or rewind it. Is there a special trick that anyone knows about to get back to the start of a game that's currently being played? or is it impossible?

Don't worry, there's a pretty simple solution to be able to keep watching NHL.tv

1. Go to ExpressVPN or any other VPN website and purchase an account.

2. Set the VPN to Singapore

3. That's it, that's all you have to do :)

My mate and I (Australia) freaked out when we thought we had to mess around with the ESPN/fetch crap until we tried this and everything's back to normal again

People know about VPN's mate. That's not what this thread is for, and it's right there in the OP.

Whether or not you want to do things the right" way is personal preference, but for some people using a VPN for some (including myself) is a diluted experience. I watch games on several different devices within my home, sometimes directly, sometimes casting, and sometimes on devices for which a VPN either is not supported/available or it would be otherwise problematic. For me, it has been worth few hours of the time up front figuring out the Fetch/ESPN way of doing things rather than dicking around with a VPN for 20 minutes every time this season when I decide want to watch something in a different room. You must have a short memory, because in the early years of NHL.tv it took a monumental about of messing around to be able to use the service in Australia. This time around was comparatively easy.

If I consider the cost over the next two seasons I'm also in front. $160 Fetch box + 2 seasons @ $6/month is about the same as buying 2 seasons of NHL.tv - and I'm not paying ExpressVPN another $90-100/year :)

As others have posted - if people want to save even more money just get on Ebay or Gumtree and find a second hand Fetch box for $40.

The ESPN app is awful to navigate and there are no useful instructions for what we had to figure out in this thread - but in terms of actual ability to stream games to multiple devices as an Australian customer ESPN is offering an equivalent service to NHL.tv for about half the cost, without the need for a VPN. It's a win.

The internet is not helping me at all but I’m having an annoying issue. Earlier this week watching games on ESPN+ through the Hulu app was fine, now if I click on a game it crashes Hulu.

Watching games on the ESPN app is fine, I don’t get it.

Sorry, what was the final verdict on this all? is NHL Live/Game center a thing of the past? I used to enjoy the price and package to watch any and every game. If this is all true, how can the NHL go backwards like this? I take whatever scraps I can get on Kayo. This is the first year, I can recall, not buying NHL Game center. Glad I didn't.

Agree to disagree on this one. I, like many in this thread, was freaking out a couple weeks before the season started until a friend told me and other friends I was with about being able to use a VPN as other countries had access to NHL.tv.
As for the OP, fair enough. I tend to skip right to the last couple pages of a thread when I click into them after skimming the OP.

I'm afraid that just because your personal situations isn't conducive for using a VPN, that might not reflect everyone else's. I'm sorry it takes you 20 minutes to activate it, but my laptop is as simple as double clicking the ExpressVPN logo on the desktop, and then one button upon the app loading. Doesn't take more than 20-30 seconds usually.

I'm not sure how long ago you're referring to? I've been using it for a few years now and have been relatively fine using it. You also seem a bit frustrated with me based on your choice of words?

Ironically I happen to have a fetch box from a mate that doesn't use it anymore. It's great, and your idea sounds like it would save money as an individual watching games.
I actually split my NHL.tv subscription with a couple of other mates (we all seem able to use it simultaneously) as well as the cost of VPN (I believe it's up to 5 devices per account) and should have clarified this with my last post.

You say "multiple devices". Don't suppose you know any tricks to get it to work on an Android TV? I gave up after an hour. Couldn't do it via the Fetch box, the ESPN+ app or the built-in browser.

It's not a huge deal, as I don't mind watching on my PC, but would be nice to occasionally get a game up on the big TV.

There's apps that will allow you to stream to TV's.

I am in Australia and have had NHL.tv for about 7-8 years. Great product.

Just tried to stream a pre-season game and have discovered they have dropped support for Australia and NZ :(

Other Australian users, have you managed to figure out how to stream games yet? NHL.com suggests ESPN, but they just redirect you to Foxtel/Optus Fetch, or Kayo. I have Kayo, but the experience is not comparable of what was previously available via NHL.tv, and I am unlikely to see games from my preferred team.

Please note - I’m not interested in answers like “use a VPN” or “use a free/illegal” method. I want to know what the replacement is for NHL.TV in my country so that I can subscribe.

Mods - I wasn’t sure where to post this one. Thanks in advance for relocating if necessary.

I am moving to Australia in the new year and I was wondering if you found a solution to watch hockey there @BurgoShark

ESPN+ is now available in Australia legally. It's actually fantastic as its only $6.00/month with a Fetch box (which you can find on FB Marketplace for under $50). It offers streams and replays to every single NHL game as well as all the other major sports.
