A lame GM that will drive this team into the ground if you give him another year or two. This is the same GM that let Ruff last 2 years longer than he should have.

B and C teams need to trade during the season, and not overpay at the trade deadline. The Mighty Saint Beaurivage was ostracized earlier this week by a cheerleading member that displays Bratt with a crooked helmet. Some of us already knew the GM was going to whiz away a draft pick for a washed up player.

Now he hides.

Run with what you have and pray we have a Cinderella team. Do not sell the future for a team that does not have Jack Hughes in the line up. If not this organization will continue to ice a losing team.
Why not grab a player that we can use going fwd. Doing nothing makes no sense, this team needs things even with Jack hurt.

"you know, I like our guys and I felt like I owed it to them to bring in Brian Dumoulin. They definitely DESERVE (see what I did there) a grizzled playoff veteran to play 15 minutes on a night on the 3rd pair.

Oh, did I try for forwards? Nah man, I think we are good with 2C Justin Dowling. I believe in our group."

- Tom Fitzgerald in a few hours, leaving the Menudo concert

I expect at least two forwards today. Ideally centres, but that is a huge ask.

Haula and Dowling cannot be relied upon to play 2/3 line minutes.

We also need something, anything from Mercer.

There is no player available left that is worth the acquisition cost.

They’re only going to make the playoffs if 13,63,28 play well. So since Fitz clearly wants a first round exit instead of missing, just let those guys show you who they really are. No reason to add anything, just throwing assets in the garbage

fitz is basically fighting for his job today, should be a lot of fun. i'm betting we lose a solid defensive prospect and get a massive top 6 upgrade.

Bro wtf is he doing at a concert on Trade Deadline Eve when there is work to be done lol. Dallas and Carolina are up at 2 am discussing a deal while Fitz is watching some garbage country music live 😂
it's dinner after a loss all over again.

Casey Mittlestadt is a fine 3C and would help. I wish he shot the puck more. I do hope there is another forward acquisition that goes along with that though. Because he alone won’t move the needle enough if we go that route

i agree with this you can make an argument for and against him. bottom line is that no one will be happy today with whatever happens.

it will be either

he didn't do enough
he did too much
he didn't get the right guys

Fack . I thought we’d get Nelson. I guess hope for RoR now. EP40 is not happening . If we miss out on RoR or no one like Cozens is available , just sell . There is no point investing anything into a lineup that has Mercer and Haula as your #2 and #3 C. Both are piles of shit

you should just stop watching for the rest of the year lol

Nobody was negative in December. The team bred that. That’s what some of you (not you) either don’t, or don’t want to, understand. Literally no one is being negative for negative’s sake.

Plus, anything less than effusive becomes the most negative thing ever somehow here.
The key thing is when they were good, the negative posters weren’t posting…anything. They come out of the woodworks when shit hits the fan. That’s the crux of the problem here.

The thing is that December happened - the Devils scored 65% of the goals on 62% xG between December 1 and December 25. They were looking like a top team. Luke Hughes fell apart, Erik Haula got hurt and then fell apart completely, and it's not clear why the former thing happened at all.

The Devils had the highest xGF of any team in November (all situations).

This team is really close to being something special, it is hard to know exactly where it went wrong, but the people who are now triumphantly jumping up and down that they knew things were bad, it's just reflexive negativity masquerading as insight.

So far I’m happy with some of the deals the Devils haven’t made; so partial credit for not going over the top to “win” the deals?

"the way it played out" you mean with them still on track to make the playoffs?

taking your victory lap when there is still 25% of the season + playoffs left is super weird.
Yes, the way it played out, as in having one of the worst records in the league for 2+ months while the excuses like “fatigue”, “shooting percentages”, etc. etc. fell by the wayside.

No victory lap here, no one wants this. “Super weird” is dedicating yourself to being board police at every turn, but I recognize that to actually attack the substance would be an admission of how wrong your cavalcade of excuses has proven to be.

love the "board police" stuff...basically "I should be able to bitch and moan without anyone responding critically!"

if you don't want people to respond to what you post, then don't post it? Scream into your pillow or something instead.

ANYWAYS enough of this nonsense, kind of a big day today.

Me mentally preparing for todays infighting on these boards

I said it after the 4 nations. We are never going to win a cup with Jack Hughes. He's just too weak and fragile!
Sorry to burst your bubble, but that's just a fact!
Chicago won 3 cups with Patrick Kane being part of their team and a big part of it. Jack has a similar body type and is exactly the same type of player. I don't think Jack Hughes is gonna be the reason why the Devils don't win another Stanley Cup.

don’t want laughton at all, feels like another move that would cost a lot and not move the needle enough.

you add those up and we get depleted of assets and still have a mid team that isn’t going anywhere

jack has the same body type but his skating and approach are inherently more dangerous. kane was never as fast and didn’t drive the puck into dangerous areas the same way, his skill set is all his hands and brain. im not sure jack will ever be able to avoid contact and dangerous areas of the ice the same way kane did, who never played center

Laughton doesn't just not move the needle. He is straight up not that good. I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up on waivers next year. He's that kind of meh player.

I am ready for HF to crash so hard today I can't access it again until tomorrow.
