To be fair a lot of the discourse around a Dougie trade came before the latest cap predictions, in the last couple of trades you can see teams are ready to go hog wild on cap space...but yes if this is what Seth Jones is getting then we'd better get something good for Dougie unless the league just doesn't like him for being a perceived goofball?

Where we at now, @Bleedred ?

I'm quite enjoying these new accounts and name changes over the last few days, I have to admit.

Fire Fitzgerald, Simon Nemec, now Dave Rogalski lol. I may have even forgot one or two.

One thing I will say in regards to this in all seriousness. There were people doing the same with Lindy in 22-23 after Fire Lindy in the home opener and all the calls for him to be fired the year before. But then that all started back up a year later.

I'm just saying, I'm not sure one year of good goaltending is enough to give him more than a stay of execution.

Who was it who told me Dougie Hamilton at 9 mill could NEVER return something like knight+1st, or that Florida would NEVER trade him for a high priced dman?

I still think the first thing is probably true.

It was always known that the cap would rise a lot in these next two years. I still think the perception around the league is more favorable towards Jones than Hamilton.

I’ve been saying for awhile that Hamilton has positive value and could fetch a good amount in a trade but he was not going to get that. Seth Jones is beloved around the league and is viewed as a physical defenseman with high effort. He hits more than Hamilton, plays tons of minutes, etc.

I’d rather have Hamilton and his contract on my team than Jones and his contract but it’s pretty apparent around the league how much teams value vet leadership, captain types, and rugged defensemen. Because of those reasons it always seemed to me Jones would get a lot more than expected, similar to Trouba getting more than most expected.

If the Devils are to get back to their December play, Luke has to figure things out and Erik Haula either has to be out of the lineup or also figure something out.

Luke is 41% xG since December 26, Haula 31%. Obviously there's other culprits - Dowling, Cotter, and Lazar are under 45% - but get those two squared away, acquire a forward or two, and those guys should be either fine or out of the lineup.

Allen has been solid for us but Daws should be Markstrom’s backup next season. He’s cheaper and better imo. With Markstrom getting older, we also need to figure out if Nico is capable of taking the baton and running with it. I was intrigued with the flashes from Daws last season and now I’m impressed with him.

With Big Mike (have a feeling this kid is going to be a stud) and Malek also in the prospect pool, there’s a lot to be excited about in net. As for now though, Markstrom has been as advertised and maybe even a little bit more.

I really hope with that recent tweet that Ryan McLeod might be available that the Devils target him over some of the veteran rentals.

He would be a dream fit on the third line. The type of center I could see meshing really well with some of our bottom six forwards too. Plus it’s both a short and long term solution.
This is the type of trade I would like that would come with team control beyond a month or 2. He seems to be coming into his own as well like his brother did.
