That's just silly...Fitz giving up the assets he did does not suddenly make the guy he traded for better than he really is.

The idea is that he would be rejuvenated for a team that's only missing piece was in net, you can improve in those circumstances. Darcy Kuemper did and I'd argue he's a worse goalie than Markstrom gifts wise.

Oilers didn't trade jack shit for Skinner. If he sucks, who the f*** cares, they still have pieces to go out and fix that spot? The Devils traded an assload for Markstrom to solidify their net and they're winning despite not because of him. Hope that clears that up. I can't believe how you guys are coddling this guy. Vitek does any of this shit last year and you'd ask for trading or cutting him on spot
Again, I don’t think anyone is coddling him. Devils traded for average goaltending. If they wanted above average goaltending like a Hellebyuck or a rookie with promise the asking price was absolutely astronomical according to all reports.

Markstrom is the essence of avg goaltending in this league. And lots of teams are looking for these types because thats how bad the goalie market has been the last few years.

They didn’t trade all they did for him to be an average goalie.
What you trade for a player doesn’t change anything about the player.

For me, this is about what I expected from Markstrom and wouldn’t have traded this much for him.

But the Devils made that trade and what they gave up for him didn’t change what I expected.

The Devils traded assets for an average goalie. I'm really sorry you folks expected him to be something more than that just because Fitz gave up quality assets for him.

This is what everyone wanted - average goaltending. You're getting it. Farcical that we are still finding ways to bitch about it.

And to be frank, Markstrom is currently an ABOVE average goalie in terms of save percentage this season lmao thats how bad the goaltending is these days

But he does need to be better. Seems like he is currently struggling with games where he faces low amounts of shots. Hopefully that improves

Absolute nonsense, goaltending can be up and down. No one said that Markstrom should be locked at a .909-.910. That being said, are the Devils a very good team most years with that goaltending? 100% but it's ok to ask for more considering the assets given up for him. If he was a UFA or cheap trade move, I wouldn't even care how they lost tonight and chalk it up to the 22-23 losses with cheap goaltending will sometimes lead to losses like this. They paid a premium and are getting a shit return of investment.

Kings have won 6 in a row. We have trouble scoring right now and our goalies aren't cutting it. Hopefully we can beat them.

Clarke v Luke is a fun storyline for that game too.

I believe goalies have worse save percentages in games with low shots and higher save percentages in high shot games when you look at a large enough volume of games.

Doesn’t mean the Kings will go undefeated for the rest of the season and vice versa for Devils. Its meaningless. Two good teams will be playing each other Thursday.

Absolutely. Thats just math as teams will score on that high danger chance amongst the low amount of shots. But, some of these have been stinkers that Markstrom will want back.

Meh, teams on winning streaks come in with a lot of mojo. Not sure it's meaningless. Doesn't mean they can't win though.

You're asking for more from a guy who is currently performing above league average and close to his personal career average. The assets given up were the going price for an average goalie.

This is to say nothing of the fact that he's also an aging player. Frankly we are lucky he's still performing at his career average so far. There was risk to this trade.

The issue here seems to be that your expectations were not at all realistic.

Kovacevic is outplaying his trade compensation but Markstrom can't? What the f*** are we doing tonight?

Why are we comparing an under utilized player of an entirely different position to a veteran goalie. Cmon now, I know the point you were responding to but what are you doing here tonight my man
