Devils discussion (news, notes and speculation) - 2026-27 offseason part III

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
Sunny has something cooking. Something big.

think it was mentioned a couple pages back but heres the source on the robo/patty thing. for context, the interview took place in 2018 (after he was already drafted). get this man on the phone with him asap lol
CR: Did you have a favorite player and team growing up?
JR: For a couple years, it was Jason Allison. The reason I liked him a lot was because his name was Jason. When I started to think about hockey and understand there were teams other than the LA Kings, I became a big New Jersey Devils fan. I like the colors and Patrik Elias was my favorite player. When I really started to think about it, my favorite player was Ilya Kovalchuk. Right now, my favorite team is the Dallas Stars.

Saw a fair bit of Chisholm in Minnesota; he's a competent bottom pairing guy who moves the puck, skates well and is passable defensively. Doesn't sound like he really found his footing with the Capitals but if we get the version I saw with the Wild he's an astute pickup for only a 4th rounder, I could see him pairing well with Kovacevic.

I also have to imagine that trade is writing on the wall for Dillon; Chisholm is younger, significantly cheaper and vastly superior at getting the puck up the ice in transition.

Chisholm & Lombardi (by the sounds of it, never seen him play myself) seem like sensible additions if we're reverting back to a high tempo 'speed & skill' type system. Guys like Dillon & Noesen will definitely be expendable if that's the case.

Went through and took a look at every underlying metric guy who may potentially be available.

Evan Rodrigues may be the best available underlying numbers out there (also only 3 million in cap) But the Overall easy winner of available is Viktor Arvidsson, holy crap

McTavish and McCann both look good but had down years analytically compared to past. Let me know if there is any guys you want me to take a look out outside of this!

TLDR: Go Sign Viktor Arvidsson, then go trade for Evan Rodrigues
Could you please look up Eetu Luostarinen? If there’s a 3mil guy from FLA I would want Sunny to trade for, it’s him. I know he’s probably not available but would be an awesome third liner for us. 1 more year and then UFA.

Robertson is going to force his way somewhere and he's slowly pissing off Dallas in the process. St Louis and Seattle must have been the preferred deals but those teams wont give up the same assets for an unsigned JRob. WHich means they have to keep going down the list or just ask him who and make it work.
