Devils discussion (news, notes and speculation) - 2026-27 offseason part III

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
Cholowski replacement?
I think so.

In my view with him as the 7 that gives us really 9 dmen I'd be comfortably putting out there. Casey, Silayev, Chisholm and then the 6 we'll have starting.

I want the same type of situation at center tbh. I want 1 AHL Center I'm comfortable with, multiple wingers who can step in, an NHL caliber guy in the press box, etc

Would we really want to pay Robertson 15M? He’s an elite player but not sure it’s smart to pay him that much and give up significant assets.

Even if Seattle is the issue we’ll have to offer similar. Seems from all reports that he’s literally trying to squeeze every last dollar out of this contract
Idk. Like the player and couldn’t complain even if we pulled the trigger but definitely would have reservations.

We as a fanbase can do nothing but spend money on the team or not. Season ticket holders get to vent their spleen to the ticket reps. That's it. Beyond that we have nothing to do with the team. We don't know what Mehta will or won't do. I get the frustration but we have to see what develops over the next couple of seasons.

I think we're saying the same thing but in different tones. Sunny deserves some grace but it could dry up quickly but he's the only one who can control his destiny fully here in NJ. Let's see what he does, his predecessor was god awful but we definitely need to have a standard here to where Sunny is miles better not just barely better than Fitz which was my original point.

It means he doesn't want to play in Seattle. That team is the very definition of mid.

I mean, that's where I don't want the throw stones at a glass house, but I was talking about it from a Devils perspective.

If Robertson prefers no taxes + being on a team that's consistently good and he rejected 3M AAV more a year from Seattle then what do the Devils have to offer in that scenario? He'd just re-up in Dallas in that scenario.

But also who knows with all those quotes about how he was a Devil fan growing up + being an Elias fan.

I’d really like to believe that stuff matters. I think most players are driven by the almighty buck though. I know it would take less to play for the team I was a big fan of.
I think it’s pretty rare that it does. I think you’re fandom dies down a lot when you’ve playing in the league for another team for years. It’s Unlikely you care or are too worried about what and how that teams doing anymore and the league in general probably seems like less of a big deal when you’ve been part of it for a while
