Devils discussion (news, notes and speculation) - 2026-27 offseason part III

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
Does Robertson really change the trajectory of the organization, with it's many flaws? Probably not. Considering his age, projected output and cap hit?

landing some big fish UFA’s goes a long way in this league, be it other UFA’s or players requesting a trade. not only would we be getting insanely better, but it puts us on the map again. both are huge to make nj a desirable destination.

100% correct. Its also a HUGE name player that makes players (like Quinn Hughes) go WOW.

It puts the league on notice, Jrob is a premier winger in the NHL

All in on the 3rd / 4th line depth role. Rather put players like this over some overpaid "tough" guy

In light of this Nemec trade…I'm trusting Sunny to assess talent well and take risks accordingly.

What I’m more interested/concerned with is how he manages the human element. There’s a lot of smoke that things haven’t been kosher in the locker room and that some players on this roster just simply don’t seem to have the intensity and will to win that’s needed, and I’m convinced that’s contributed to the shit results on the ice. That needs to be factored in to the roster construction decisions. It’s not something that can be measured with analytics. Sunny needs to show he can manage this aspect of things and build a team that has the intensity and chemistry of a contender. That could mean shipping out players that might not look bad analytically but are nonetheless making the team worse for intangible reasons.

The Panthers did this well, but yea I have a feeling it was Zito responsible for that and Mehta just presented the players using analytics. Remains to be seen if that's true and / or he learned a thing or 2 from Zito.

Tulsky has been doing an excellent job (who has followed a similar path as Mehta). I think we're in safe hands.

I agree he's somewhat intriguing, but without ever really watching him play, he strikes me as Sprong type.

ie does stupid sheet on the ice that coaches can not tolerate.
