Devils discussion (news, notes and speculation) - 2026-27 offseason part III

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
The Robertson trade is the timo trade X3. It's a huge gamble and will be career ending for the GM if it doesn't work out. I doubt Sunny makes that type of huge move this early.

Tbh, it's not the trade for Timo I was not a huge fan of, but the contract. So for me, if it's true he wants 14 million / year...thanks but no thanks. He's not that good.

Robertson would be very expensive, but not a gamble. Guy doesn't miss games and puts up big production every year.

Im not going to lie to you, I thought the same but looking at Jrob's total body of work...... he might be worth 14 million

Hes an other wordly player IMO

Of the players reasonably expected to be available, who are you willing to part with 12OA to go get?

For me:
Definitely: QH, Robertson, Marchenko
Probably: Larkin, Thomas, Debrincat
Maybe: Tippett, McTavish

Would also be looking at Rakell or Rust for 35OA and a future 2 but not willing to give 12 for either

Yes to any of those except McTavish. The only way we'll get upgrades without losing good younger players, which won't make it a sidegrade but will still leave holes, is to trade the pick.

Although...we'll prob lose good younger players anyways

But there is the contract, and then there is the trade return to get him here. Very very expensive.

I just think you have to focus on Quinn. Until that is resolved one way or the other, I think smaller moves at fwd will have to suffice.

This is fair, which I wonder - if Sunny wants to keep players and say F the picks.... Do we just offer sheet him?

Here you go Dallas, here is our next 4 years of picks and we still have First Rounders in 2027 / 2028

I would give up 12 for QH, Robertson, Thomas, Werenski.

Im not giving up 12 for the others, Larkin is a close one only because I think if we get him we lock up Quinn. Sooo I would potentially say yes to Larkin even though I dont think hes worth it
Why a no on Larkin? Age and contract?

A center who has scored 30+ goals 5 years running would otherwise be a slam dunk for the 12th oa.

How much C does Draisatl play? I actually don't know. But either way, C vs W.
I know some people here are gunna scoff at a 2 million difference, but I think every $ counts. $12 mil / year for him is good, $14 eh.

I'm not really worried about the trade one bit. Much better to just get Robertson than betting on prospects / younger players that might hit in 2-3 years (and by hit I mean being as good or better than Robertson). Outside Jack/Nico/Bratt (and I guess Luke for nepo reasons), anyone is open for a trade for Robertson for me. All draft picks open

I do agree about Quinn in one aspect. They need to get that resolved sooner than later because the moves they do depends on that.

Marky, Kovy and Dougie gone too. Would give us real cap to work with. Im fully in support of the devils trading dougie to SJ for 2OA. I think stennberg is going to be a stud.
Dougie does NOT have that type of value. But with costs going up I think we can snag SJS 27th Overall + a Prospect

yea sorry lol, there would def need to be pieces included but i was more so saying that dougie could be the center piece of that trade. SJ needs a right shot defense like we need a top 6 scoring winger.

Knies, if yes actually available, would be a definite for me. He seems to be EXACTLY what we need on Jacks wing.

The Devils don't want cap to work with, that's what's so strange about what's happening in this offseason. Teams have plenty of cap - you don't get a trade like the Byram deal in an even moderately restricted cap environment. The Devils don't quite have enough cap for everything they might want to do this offseason, but they don't want that much more, either.

Probably just in terms of Grits.

Of course you have to be willing to trade grits for a player as good as Robertson. But to trade Grits, who you can make a case was our best fwd last year, for a guy you then have to give a huge contract too? Less palatable.
