I just can't condone tanking. It feels dishonest and disrespectful to the sport in general. If the Devils try their best and still finish with a top five pick, so be it, but if they try to lose and end up with a top five pick, I might become a fan of a franchise that has too much integrity to tank. If the Devils tank, they won't be the Devils any more in my opinion.
Nobody tanks.

I know everyone says that but how do you explain buffalo going

2-18-1 in their last 21 games?

Actually Dactyl, around here, most everybody says that teams tank. ;)

Which is silly, of course. I honestly think it's "draftniks" (read: those who value shiny non-NHL teenage promises, er prospects over actually winning hockey games) casually and baselessly projecting their own values on others, including NHL GM, coaches and players.

To answer your question (honest answer): how do I explain Buffalo's record of 2-18-1 in their last 21?

They suck. For real.

Oh yea it's obvious that they're really bad, but it's almost impressive how bad they are. Like their management didn't even try to ice a decent team.

8-2-2 is an impressive stretch but everyone knew the team would improve under new coaching..

We would literally need to go 24-4-2 or something like t hat to even sniff the playoffs

Actually with 30 games left and currently having 51 points, I think that 21-6-3 could possible get you the 8th seed.

Edit: http://www.sportsclubstats.com/NHL/Eastern/Metropolitan/NewJersey.html
Even that record I posted would only bring you a 53.9% chance. Looks more like 23-5-2 will give you a very good chance (87.1%).

I don't think any devils fan thinks we have a shot. We are getting out shot by a 2-1 margin nightly and schneids and Larsson are playing out of their minds. We are just happy they are winning games again.

Probably too late and it must be said they are fully taking advantage of an easier part of their schedule

Yeah really, it's no different than when a MLB team is 7 games out of the wild card in late august, it seems doable but the reality is there are so many teams near and in front if you that too much needs to go right that's out of your control.

Devils would basically have to go 22-8(for 95 points) to make the playoffs. It's possible but very unlikely

I cant see them making it, but weirder things have happened. They're better off not making it and getting a nice draft pick so they can get some talented offensive forwards.

The Devils are 12 points out with 30 games to go.

Sure, it's not mathematically impossible, but in this day and age it's very hard for one team to climb that much with respect to another team. And they'd have to leapfrog two other teams, too.

I feel fairly safe that the 8 playoff Eastern teams have already been settled.
