With Larsson really starting to come on ( Hedman situation v2 ) it's looking even luckier.

That was about the end of our hockey god blessing though

I had a feeling that as soon as PDB got the boot Larsson would start to turn it on. That guy really screwed around with some of the Devils young players.

It's not impossible at all, and people are writing off the Devils way too early.

Statisticaly it's like 0.8%. Wait until we're at least 6-8 pts out before setting yourself up for a let down.

We're been playing crap teams for the most part and getting badly out shot every night.

We're going to come back to earth here soon.

I would absolutely not say they are dominating any of their games.

Getting outshot and only putting up a couple of shots on the other net is not dominating.

The Devils are getting great goaltending and just capitalizing on the shots they do take. But i would absolutely not say they are dominating.

Also, you just played the Leafs who are now on a 11th game losing streak. This thread is way too premature.

It isn't impossible, but it is highly improbable. Considering that, perhaps in the future you should more accurately title your threads, especially when the only thing in the OP is "discuss." Also, using an HF meme in the title to get more clicks shouldn't happen.

I changed it to a question to try to foster a little discussion. They are twelve points back with 31 games to play. That's a pretty big gap, hardly "roaring into a playoff spot."

Besides the Penguins, the Devils played some pretty bad teams in the last 5 games.

Leafs 2x, Sens, Panthers and Penguins.

Yeah but under Deboer they would blow those leads. This team would probably go .500 or under for the home stand while getting more shots on net.

Well, they're not.

And even if they might be, it still takes two at this stage to make it work: That's one team climbing and another falling.

They're really just separating themselves from the real bottom feeders. It'd take a pretty miraculous run for them to make it.

Also, of their 8 wins in the past 12 games, only 1 of those was against a team currently in playoff position.

I was terrified that they'd get McDavid. I guess it can still happen mathematically but I can breathe easier.

Happy for Scotty Gomez and I guess Larsson, there's some good stories, but there's not a whole lot of talent on that roster.

Boy, they looked terrible vs the Sens (who suck as well) the other night. If they make it, I'd be stunned and Schneider should look into buying some MVP votes.

That's the thing. They've played a bunch of bottom feeders, looked pretty terrible (I mean, they averaged like 14 shots a game over that stretch, or something like that), and some how came out with the win most nights. When they played Pit, they didn't even look like they belonged on the same ice surface as them. I was embarrassed for them watching that game.

As a Devils fan it's nice to see them win. **** tanking. But the keen observer will note that they have been much less than impressive during this run. It won't last. But it's a good thing to create and maintain a winning attitude, and there have been bright spots like the play of Larsson and Schneider. Realistically there is no chance they make the playoffs, but I sure as hell will be rooting for them to.

Devils basically have to go 22-7-1 or 21-6-3 to make it 96 points. And 96 points only gives us a 55% chance to get in according to Sports Club Stats. Certainly not impossible, and they don't have the toughest of schedules remaining.

Don't see it happening, but I'll stay hopeful I guess.

I think at best we'll finish just outside a playoff spot like 2011, but seeing this team actually win games and show some signs of mental resilience makes me a lot more optimistic as a fan.
