They'd have to go on a historic-ish streak to finish out the season to have a chance. It's not happening, sorry. I think most Devils fans realize this too. Simply unrealistic.

Agreed. So what if we pick 10th instead of 5th? Get that losers mentallity out of the room.

Yeah, I'd rather win games and have a team that really performs passionately every night even if it means getting a worse pick than lose games with a team that doesn't care and end up with a better pick. Hockey's a team sport in the end, and I want to watch a team that has pride, not a team willing to tank to try to snag a star.

Not likely, we're simply too far out considering how good the teams in the wildcard spots are; the current top 8 teams in the East are all considerably better than us.

Still, winning games is never a bad thing, if we pick around #10 we'll still get a very nice prospect i'm sure, and McDavid and Eichel were unrealistic given how bad Edmonton and Buffalo are. We weren't going to be favourites for the lottery either way, i'd rather see the team perform well.

Dominating last 10, really clicking defensively, and getting fantastic goaltending.

How on Earth can you say they've been dominating the last 10 when they've been outshot in 9 of those games?

Schneider has been bonkers lately and we're starting to get healthy, that's nice, but playoffs simply aren't happening.

They need to keep this streak alive and repeat the last 13 games or whatever.

I don't like our chances, but winning is always better than tanking. I'd rather draft 15 and keep pushing a winning culture than draft top 5 with a culture of losing.

Too big a hole to dig out of. The 2010-11 club had a ridiculous 2nd half and didn't really come close to sniffing the playoffs under similar circumstances.

yeah but a top 5 pick might change culture around faster especially in this draft..just saying..

I just can't condone tanking. It feels dishonest and disrespectful to the sport in general. If the Devils try their best and still finish with a top five pick, so be it, but if they try to lose and end up with a top five pick, I might become a fan of a franchise that has too much integrity to tank. If the Devils tank, they won't be the Devils any more in my opinion.

In order to make the playoffs, the Devils will have to go on a major winning streak and either Boston or Caps will have to have a Leaf like collapse.

This. Also, the players don't want to lose games on purpose. They don't care about some 18 year old kid. You don't want to instill a losing mindset into some of the younger players on the team. Many of the older players won't be back next year. What Lou is doing right now is just fine. He's staying pat, and when the deadline comes, he'll evaluate where the team is then. If he feels we can make a run, he'll try to improve the team without giving up important assets. If we're significantly out of position, he'll look to sell our vets.

Bottom line, you don't want to embed a losing mentality into the young guys. It only makes things worse.

Nobody can have a Leafs like collapse, hence why it's Leafs like collapse. We got that **** trademarked.

Good points, and if there were any young guys on the team who were willing to lose on purpose, I'd want them off the team as soon as possible. That's a loser mentality if I ever heard of one, and I can't imagine winning a Cup with a player who thought like that playing any significant role on the team. The bottom line to me is that hockey is a team sport, so losing on purpose for one eighteen year old, regardless of how talented, isn't worth it in my perspective.

There's benefits either way. At this rate, we're looking more at Zacha/Barzal/Rantanen rather than Strome/Marner. Still picking up a good prospect (knock on wood).
