The Oilers are the exception, not the rule. And that's mostly due to management that makes even Sather look like a genius.

Just about every other team who drafts high starts climbing the standings.

of course the climb...they were last in the league...

how are the top 10 picks working for the oilers?

****house.

Do they have guys like Staal/McD/Girardi/Cally (dubi, AA) on that roster that they are just hiding for later?

Let's say the team tries to continue the rebuild around a core of Staal/Girardi plus Lundqvist on D, cally, AA, Dubi up front plus whatever guys you draft. Outside of the the 11-12 miracle run, how we would be worse off?

english?

I wonder what we could get from Edmonton if we offered Talbot and Girardi.

Hall and a 1st?

He's a BiG part of the problem

What would Pitt look like with an average Crosby Malkin combo?

How bout boston with an average Chara?

Washington with ovechkin scoring 20 goals this year?

Hank is our best player but he's putting up mediocre stats and costing us points

Just like any team if ure franchise player plays like crap ure not gonna be a great team and sure enough we are a 500 team

The other BIG problem

Ryan Callahan looks like Gaborik out there without the finishing touch. Softer than baby food

Marc Staal finished as an elite dman I'm positive he can't see the puck cleanly. If we could deal him for anything I'd have done it before this concussion but he's prob done for a while. We'll be a better team with MDZ in that spot true story

Those 3 are our biggest problems w

hilarious that a post about underachieving comes from a guy named kovalev

I really like this logic because DZ can so easily crack the bottom pairing on this team, too.

Florida, Columbus, Islander?

MDZ is a left dman being asked to play the right side which he can't

And people wonder why he is struggling

He's been unfairly benched IMO he's been better than staal and John Moore for that matter

Florida. They're still early in their build. Give them more time. Basically depends on how Markstrom turns out. But they have pieces I'd kill to have on the Rangers.

Columbus. They're doing that bull**** half-rebuild the Rangers tried. You don't make a deal for Gaborik if you're on a pure rebuild.

Islanders. LOL. "They'll be better than the Rangers this year, and would have went to the ECF last year with a real goalie"

Last game DZ played, maybe last two games, he played the left side.

Saying Del Zotto is better than Staal is insanely laughable.

Done with this conversation.

See these other teams still have great pieces waiting in the system. Who is in the Ranger's system; Pavel Buchnevich??? Jesus Christmas...

So if we're going by this logic u shouldn't be allowed to post at all unless someone else is injured and we need u to fill in for the night black ace

If that happens, we end up icing bad teams that might not be bad enough to lose their way into star players. Young players get brought up in a culture of losing, but statistically I don't think we're that likely to get the superstar guarantee players at the end of it.

While getting the sixth pick in every round leads to better organizational strength on average than getting the twentieth pick, I can't say for sure it leads to a better long-term outcome than icing the kind of playoff bubble soup we have right now. IMO the Rangers drafting in lowish positions has been very good in the main post-lockout, with potential stars like Kreider and contributors for nothing like Hagelin.

One team out of thirty wins the cup every year. Tiny odds. There's nothing that really riles the passions about this team, I think a lot of the core guys are overvalued and I'd welcome changes around the fringes, but for me hoping for luck in the playoffs is more exciting than tearing it all down and hoping for luck in the draft lottery.

Hank's contract is the one thing that really scares me the more I think about it, though. Just gotta hope for big cap numbers.

Well, Del Zotto isn't going to be traded now with Staal possibly out. Maybe that hit knocked Staal back into his old consciousness of a hockey player. He's been awful.

Callahan's been awful, truly unlike him to take a stupid penalty like that. I wonder what's up with him. My guess is that he came back too soon from the broken hand.

Impressed big time by Kreider and Stepan, despite the latter's detractors on here. He looked like Datsyuk out there tonight. Excellent takeaways and good decisions with the puck.

Nash was unlucky tonight. Thought he played well.

Zuccarello has been the best player on this team for two weeks.

Impressed by Miller, his chances will start going in. Please, switch him to center.

Hagelin was bad. Has been for quite some time.

The whole team overall played very poorly after giving up the Janssen non-goal that counted.

Lundqvist was bad tonight, but there's no way I'd let Talbot face the Ovenchickens.

Clearly kicked in goal counts...
Miller hauled down in the 3rd on a scoring chance...

And AV is just chewing his damn gum. I get not berating the refs every game but he has not had even a conversation all year. It's ridiculous.

Tim Peel left his whistle in his locker. Didn't make a call all night.
Elias headlocks, rips of Falk's helmet and he just stands there, 4 feet away, with his blinder's on. The only thing he did all night was call a kicked in goal. We are 0 for the season with calls from Toronto.

So this season he has given up at least 5-6 softies in 3 games vs the devils
