Wasn’t a factor here. The Canes broadcast did show the tribute, the ovation and the Pesce reaction. It wasn’t live, because as
@bleedgreen said, the in-house tribute happened during the commercial break.
I can’t speak about what preparations the Devils broadcast had for their show. I can only speak about what work was done for the Canes broadcast. Bleed, did the Devils broadcast actually show the video, or did they just show his reaction to it and the ovation?
I’m assuming both broadcasts had access to the tribute video beforehand (because showing it off the Jumbotron feed is low quality). And both broadcasts recorded the ovation and Pesce reaction, as you’d expect them to do. The Canes broadcast also added an infographic to their package, basically showing the career numbers for Pesce during his time here. No idea if New Jersey did the same.
But basically this is all to say, I believe the Canes broadcast put more work into their tribute than New Jersey did, which would be the main reason why it wouldn’t hit the air as quickly as the Jersey feed did. It’s also possible that sponsors (which take priority over everything else) may have delayed the tribute, but that’s something that’s usually taken into account during the preproduction phase, so it’s unlikely, but not impossble.
