Sure it was nice to put up a lot of shots, but we still looked pretty blech

We are terrible at handling the puck up the middle so we spend most of these games playing on the outsides

nah bro just throw it all and see if 1 sticks. Not today lul

Well it's time for Lou to keep the goons off the ice. Tonight was a good first step... but Kostopolous and Barch should be in the press box for the rest of the season... I hope Josefson gets called up ASAP.

I know I know he hasn't been good but he will provide some speed and hey you never know.

Elias-Loktionov-D'Agostini
Henrique-Zajac-Zubrus
Sullivan-Josefson-Clarkson
Ponikarovsky-Carter-Bernier

Well if JJ does come up only one to sit would be Gio (though even I am thinking Clarkson might deserve a sit). I think with the Sullivan trade you already saw the last of the goons without having to ask.

I think Clarkson had like 8 shots. I could probably stop 8 shots from Clarkson right now and win the car or whatever they give you for scoring on the score-o shot thing during intermission.

The shots don't make a difference to me. It's the fact that he can't be involved in an up ice rush, he can't give and go with someone, he can't make smart passes or any passes... he's not hitting anyone or fighting either.

Agreed... same as last year. Once Lou was happy with 12 forwards the goons sat.

Couple thoughts on the game:

1. Can't believe Gionta is in anyone's dog house, he was all over the ice hustling, almost created a shorthanded breakaway, and he worked his ****ing ass off tonight. He absolutely should stay in the line up going forward

2. The defense was excellent, where was this against the geek Florida teams? Salvador played his best game in weeks, Zidlicky was solid, Greene was awesome on both sides of the puck (how about that toe drag?), they all played great.

3. Marty was nearly perfect, made some huge stops to keep it 1-0

4. The offense looked putrid at times, but they put up shots and absolutely dominated the 1st and much of the 3rd. There's just a huge lack of raw skill in the line up, games like this prove it. Unfortunately, there isn't much this team can do about it personnel wise, the trading deadline was yesterday. They need to find a way, if they want to make the playoffs, to get someone going. Patty, Travis, Clarkie, ANYONE.

I personally think the team is done now, they poured everything they had into this and still came up short. The Bruins must have gotten the luckiest win of the season so far, a shot off a skate wins it for them...unreal. I'd love to be proven wrong about NJ, but this was so deflating, I don't know if they can bounce back from it and go on a tear to end the season. The skill just isn't there.

Very disappointing loss. I want to throw something

They played a great game, had two posts and outplayed one of the cup favorites. Yeah they have sucked lately but this one I will not take as a negative other than those points so desperately needed.

What do you expect people to say after a loss around here? ''Oh yay Rask is god! We love Chara! Lets go pak the caaa somewhaaa!'' Jesus Christ. You have 1009 posts on this board, and act like you just now hopped on an internet message board for the first time in your life. Maybe this is the first time you got on an opposing teams board.

No I get it, but that one stood out for some reason. Like serious rage it made me  a little. I didn't realize I had that many posts, but yeah I was talking as much about my team as anything else. They're wicked boring, and have the same style as yours, I don't care how many shots there are, it was still a boring game. I watched St. Louis play Colorado a while back and it was like another sport. Only when our coaches job is on the line will he allow his team to play "hockey" but until then.. winning the Cup was great but Claude's here forever now and that's not good. I have no idea how the B's have as many points as they do. They sneak into overtime, win some shoot outs, win 1-0, or 2-1, and it sucks. But that poster made me laugh with his psycho stuff.

Clarkson's demise has directly coincided with the Devils poor play. He was last regularly scoring against the Flyers back in that game we went down 3-1, but came back to win. The next night was the terrible no show at the Mausoleum. Since then he's scored 2 goals. One a deflection against the Flyers in the shootout loss. Only goal of the game for us. And then against the worst goaltender in the league on a play where he didn't cover the puck. That goal should have never even happened.

He's had 4 points in a 23 game stretch. He's been playing like a player that's worth less than what he's making right now. It will be a cardinal sin to sign him for more than $3.5 million a year. Anything over $4 would be devastating, and I'm saying $4 with the fact that he's really better than this in mind. Though he's not worth any more than that.

The fact that we played one of the best games in a month made it a good game for me. Wasn't really exciting, but I was pretty confident Marty and our defense could hold the Bruins to just a goal after Jagr scored the first one. I was also just as confident that Tuukka was getting a shutout.

Agree with your points, but I feel like this loss should not put them down. If anything, use this as a template, because this type of game will win them games without question. You never know if they just have one of those games where they break out and score in bunches.

Its a crushing loss for sure, but I think this is the best the Devils have looked against a quality opponent in a really really long time. The skill is just short but even with that, they played straight up with the Bruins.

I have a feeling Zajac is never going to break out and this is the player NJ is stuck with for 8 more years.

Zajac just needs a prolific player to cycle with. Parise was that. Get one this summer and it'll help him out

Thank you for walking me off the edge. I was this close to lighting the local animal shelter on fire, but you convinced me that the "explosion" was not worth it. Thank you again. As a token of my appreciation, I can lend you some creative ideas that involve a cliff and a pair of shoes :)

 good job, those animals did nothin to you, take it out on humans! I'll be taking my leave now, I get that weird feeling that you get on some boards where you're intruding on some type of weird bonding session. Happens on our board too.

Relax, we're okay here and I'm just messing with you. Joking around is a good reliever for the frustration of the never ending losing.

Yup. And I'm not necessarily looking for a win/loss to make that distinction for me.

Boston's the better team hands down, so the Devils can play a great game and still lose. Important to play that great game for the next set of games confidence wise though.

These last few weeks have been depressing as all hell and as crushing as this loss was, they need to use this game as a springboard. If they play like they did tonight, they're going to win games. They will absolutely win some games. This is the way they need to play. It's the blueprint. They made some mistakes but they did a good job defensively, as a team. They're lacking skill right now, but the team game was solid tonight. Real solid effort from top to bottom and they deserved better. This loss only hurts like **** because of the situation they're in.

Bottom line, they lost one point tonight and another game off the schedule. If they sulk they're done. But they shouldn't sulk after this one. They need to build off of this game.

I have been looking for a spark from this team for weeks and I think we got it tonight. I really do. I think this loss shows that they do in fact have some good hockey in them but they have to continue with this same game. This kind of play and effort will win them 8 out of 10 games against most teams. They just gotta hang in there until it turns because they'll be knocking on that door pretty damn hard if they can keep this type of play up.

Disappointing they lost but pretty content with the game tonight. Yea, it made it harder for us to make the playoffs.. but tonight's hockey team was miles better than what we've seen as of late. They play like this.. they'll be right up there in the thick of things the last week of the season and that's all you can ask given how tight the playoff race is.

Saturday night's game is pretty big now. It's either:
A) Team is convinced they can't catch a break after tonight, beginning of the end
B) Team knows they are better than how they've been playing, as they displayed tonight.. and go even harder for a win on Saturday.

Hoping for option B ;)

Meanwhile, holy **** do the Bruins get away with murder.. I don't think they were going to get called for another penalty unless someone was decapitated with a slash.

This was one of Marty's strongest games of the season I thought. Maybe the Rangers game and the Flyers shutout was better. He even made a ridiculous save on something that changed direction off of somebody. This was a classic 07/08 Marty game. We had were shutout 11 times that year, and had a couple 1-0 games like this where one bad bounce put the other team on the board.

I just can't get over Clarkson. He's so bad right now. He looks like the 07-08 Clarkson. Only that Clarkson wasn't Sutter's little ***** getting all kinds of ice time in every situation. I'm afraid pretty soon we're gonna be seeing Clarkson on the PK.

Your team shoulda won, Took stole it for sure. We're lucky most the time this year, our bottom six plays more than our top and Jay freakin Pandolfos on our third line!

I thought Jersey was great last year, and I was surprised to hear how much people don't like Clarkson here, I'd love to have him on our team. Chia pays everyone 4-5 mil for and they all go through prolonged slumps so he'd fit right in. Henriques great, but I don't know anything about the Devils from this year, I still think they'll make the playoffs though, based on the little I've seen.

Exactly that. The effort was there on both sides of the ice (well the PP still sucks, but who knows if what happens if they actually make some damn calls in the 3rd). There were high quality chances too. Rang the post twice, Greene pretending to be Kovy. The rebounds just all bounced to the wrong parts of the ice. We needed a bounce like they got (off a damn skate).

We play this hard against the Leafs...we beat the Leafs.

You take Clarkson, we'll take a re-signed Horton.
