Finally caught up to the thread (had to pop out right as the Zetterlund news hit). Pretty psyched with the trade. Have quite a few thoughts
Talked to an acquaintance who's a Sharks fan and these were his thoughts (paraphrased). "Iffy on the trade, loved Timo but need to move him to help the rebuild. We got 5 pieces who can potentially help the team down the road which is nice b/c we need help pretty much everywhere. But we gave up an elite player and didn't get close to elite in return. Especially sucks knowing NJ kept a lot of their top assets. Really wanted Nemec"
We acquired their ~2nd best player without giving up our top ~9 or so most valuable pieces. Have to give to get. Really liked Muk but he was our 3/4 best D prospect. Zetterlund has solid middle 6 complimentary forward upside too. Ok is about equivalent to Bahl. Late firsts can be solid top6/top4 guys and can also become Chase Stillman. None of these ceilings come close to Timo Meier.
Really thought Holtz was getting moved, made a lot of sense for us but I guess the Devils still really believe in him or SJ didn't like him, maybe both. Guess the plan is for him to take Tatar's spot next year? If Holtz plays near his potential that forward core is beyond stacked with a good bit of skillset diversity. His ELC becomes a ton more valuable to us now too.
Our LHD depth took a hit too. Hopefully Bahl keeps playing well and establishes himself as a solid NHL dman. Realistically tho both Hughes and Nemec may make the lineup next year. We can't be playing those guys and Muk/Ok in the lineup all at the same time, so many inexperienced guys is recipe for disaster. Keeping Casey whos a little further off is nice since those other guys should have some experience under his belt by the time Casey is ready.
