We should be in a position where we're really not adding a lot next year, or if we do maybe then Holtz or Casey goes.

If you're that worried about a 2024 first just wait till Bratt gets flipped (unfortunately only half being facetious) :sarcasm:
Kind of wish this ==> :whatever: was part of the "Like" emoji group.

I would've used it for this post. LOL

Viva la Meier, Good luck for Z, Nikita and Shakir. I spent a lot of time with their games, Shakir especially. They were good enough to bring us Meier. It will make us better. And it will help to fight for Stanly Cup before Dougie, Nico, Siegs and Marino deals will end. Good night, guys. I`m tired, happy and sad in the same time. Really hard to say goodbye to the good prospects and players, part of them I talked personally, wish them luck. Good to send them to the west)

Devils are good for the first time in a decade and people are tilting over late 1sts. It’s a fair package but dang, our “loser” mindset is so pervasive still.
I don't think it's so much the late first as it is a lot of 'stuff'. The piece that bugs me most is Zetterlund, but all of those pieces put together do add up. Muk and Ok were basically gonna be blocked here with Nemec, Luke and Bahl all in front of them now and the three core defensemen signed long-term. They'll miss Zetterlund's physicality except they kinda get it back with Timo anyway. You can give reasons for all of those guys to have gone but that doesn't mean they didn't have value.

A second first-rounder in addition to all that wouldn't be ideal. Yes it's likely not going to be a big first but still.

Credit where credit is due for Fitz. He and Ray have both righted many Conte wrongs over the years. First Ray comes in here and acquires all of John Moore, K Palms and MarJo, all of whom were picked right behind Conte’s bust Yayo in 2009. And then Ray acquires Vatanen, who was picked after two other Conte busts in Urbom and Geli.

Now Fitz rights Conte’s final first round wrong by acquiring Meier, who was picked just three spots behind another Conte failure in PZ. Barzal was always my first choice as everyone here knows, but absolutely inexcusable for Conte to at least not take Timo Meier instead of PZ.

Thanks Ray Fitz for doing your part in cleaning up years of the messes Conte made and undoing all of his mistakes. Just sad we had to use assets to right those wrongs.

Now go out and get Yakov Trenin, who Conte passed on to take MBW29 and undo that mistake next.

CONDITIONS:

The conditions on the draft picks are as follows:

- San Jose Receives New Jersey's 2023 First-Round Pick: If the pick is a top-two selection, New Jersey will instead transfer their own 2024 first-round pick.

- San Jose Receives Conditional 2024 Second-Round Pick: Should New Jersey reach the 2023 Eastern Conference Finals (and Meier plays in at least 50% of Meier's Club's Playoff games in 2023) or the 2024 Eastern Conference Finals, New Jersey will transfer its own first-round pick in 2024 NHL Draft to San Jose (top 10 protected), instead of its own second-round pick in 2024 NHL Draft. If New Jersey's first-round pick in 2024 NHL Draft is a top 10 selection, New Jersey will have the option to instead transfer its own first-round pick in 2025 NHL Draft to San Jose. Should New Jersey transfer its first-round pick in 2024 NHL Draft per the original condition (top-two above in Condition A), New Jersey will instead transfer its own first-round pick in 2025 NHL Draft should they reach the 2024 Eastern Conference Finals.

This is a whole lot of mumbo jumbo
