Reading their GDT, some said Zetterlund made some good plays but just seemed just a tad behind the play which is understandable as this was his first night with new teammates.

Mango, on the other hand, was invisible, according to them.

Actually, Johnson had the puck on his stick a lot and had a few good looks.

Zetterlund looked like he was floating on the defensive end, not quite sure exactly where to go.

I wonder if going for a system that asks the wingers to cover a ton of ice to a more traditional system that asks the winger to cover less made Z feel like he should mostly just hang in a certain area and that was doing his job.

It probably was right. He just looked unsure of himself to me.

This extended wait before Meier gets into a game as a Devil is driving our anticipation up to ridiculous levels.

It's like we've arrived at the fireworks factory, but we can't go in just yet because we're sorting out our tickets and waiting in line for entry.

flyers are apparently willing to retain. if not him, we need someone with a similar style if we actually want to be contenders for the cup this year.

We can contend without that and beyond this year I'd much much rather use the ~3.5ish on Tatar than locking it into Hayes

Tbh, I'm not really all that concerned on taking a contract with term, as long as it's for the right player. Hayes could be that guy.

There's always an Arizona to dump it on when it get's ugly...

I don't think Hayes is that guy. There's better ways we could use that money.

personally, i don’t see us as cup contenders this year with the roster constructed as is. which is fine, because my expectations to start the year were to be in the mix for a wildcard spot, and we’ve wildly exceeded that. i’d be over the moon winning a round.

the playoffs are a completely different beast than the regular season, and IMO we lack the grit and toughness required to go deep. i hope fitz is looking to address that.

You're probably right...

Hayes just fits the mold that Fitz alluded to wanting to add.

Hayes is really bad defensively and his production takes a hit here as he wouldn't be a PP1 guy. Tatar would be a much more valuable 3.5 going forward than Hayes. Henrique really is the guy that makes the most sense (kind of the only guy that makes any sense to me). I'd be completely down to get him half retained for say Yegor

We could definitely beat the Rangers (also not going to rule out winning the division). Canes have been possession monsters and would be a tough out for sure but also their lack of top end talent could present a real issue just like it did last year. I don't doubt our ability to get to at least the ECF. Now beating one of the Atlantic teams is a tall task. It's doable but obviously difficult.

I don't see how a Kevin Hayes really makes any substantial difference in accomplishing that. I also don't really know if he's even a fit here with the footspeed. Also probably losing a lot of his value by dropping him to a PP2 role and he's bad defensively. I don't like Hayes as an option at all.

The best option to me is obviously Wilson (if you could guarantee he gets back to form from the injury) but the Caps aren't moving him and even if they were it'd be a huge price.

I feel like you guys have all caught the shopping bug after our big new purchase.

I think we should only make little tweaks at this point. There's really no reason to go big game hunting unless it EXACTLY fits our needs, and no-one available does at this point.
Fitz mentioned he might try to make some cap space as well, but I'm sure he would only do so if it wouldn't negatively impact the team.

I’m so curious what he meant by that. Wood’s like the only guy who could be used for a cap clearing move but he’s got the grrrrrrrrit they’ve talked about. When it comes to clearing money for the future there’s no one signed into next year that we’d be looking to move on from
