Like Hall a great add of talent, though added to a position at which we have depth.

Shero needs to find some balance.

I was not that into trading rico prior, but it makes more sense now.

Zacha or Q perhaps as well.

Not sure if this was mentioned yet, but we now have 3 picks from the 2009 first round that were picked after Jacob Josefson. DD will love that.

I like the thought of our lines being:

Hall-Hishier-Johansson
Zacha-Zajac-Palmeri
JQ-Henrique-Speers/McLeod

We need a new #13

"When time is on your side, you use it. - Lou Lamoriello, 2012" - Ray Shero, 2017

why did the caps do this though? cap relief?

Yep, they spent like mad reupping Oshie, Kuznetzov and Orlov and were already carrying a couple of big deals beside that too.

Astonishing this kind of trade gets done in division although we obviously aren't a threat to the Caps in the immediate future, but Johanssen is the kind of guy you do want to keep around for a while.

Where are the posters saying there's no plan and Ray is doing nothing? This is absolutely fantastic and there is nothing bad to be said about this deal. At all.

Scouting Report for you guys:

Speedy two-way winger with a nice touch and willing to drive to the net. Responsible defensively, but for some reason hasn't seen much PK duty since his first couple years in the league (although many feel he could PK if given the chance). He's not particularly strong along the boards, so you'll hear many Caps fans call him "soft." However, despite his board inefficiencies, he's more than willing to drive the dirty areas on the ice. The majority of his goals come in and around the crease. Willing to screen goalies. In open ice, he's more of a playmaker than a shooter (his shot isn't noteworthy). Good at zone entries, although several years ago he overused the drop pass on zone entries so that became a gripe for Caps fans that has stuck with him as a label.

His year's under Adam Oates were bad because Oates forced him to adjust the curve of his stick and he ended up shanking a lot of pucks. His stats under Boudreau and Trotz are more indicative of his level of play. He probably won't be a 58 point player again, but he's a reasonable bet for 20G/45-50P in most seasons (at least on Washington).

I've always liked him when I watched Caps games, guy had 58 points in 82 games last season and has solid stats all around.

Where does he play...C/LW or RW? We're happy to have him either way but if he played RW that would be better.

They shelled out a big ass extension for Kuznetsov today and need to clear a bunch of salary. They were almost capped out and didn't even have their RFA's signed. John Carlson is UFA next year.

and to think we were discussing landing carlson next offseason due to their cap situation. i mean, it still could in theory happen, but we landed a pretty solid player in lieu of that situation today! so happy
