Id be more confident in this offseason if the team had gotten the average goaltending and thr resukte lined up with the fancy numbers. I just hope those aren’t a mirage and what Fitz is doing genuinely addresses the teams actual needs. I’m only cautiously optimistic.

At minimum the new defenders have a better stylistic fit than the ones leaving.

Regardless if the system is good or bad, the new guys should execute it better.

I love this trade for multiple reasons. Not only does it give us a RH defensive dman who can skate, it moves Smith out before his value completely tanks.

It also makes room for Okhotyuk at LD. I am a big fan of his and I am confident that he will beat out Bahl for that spot.

Any thoughts on the claims that Marino is a product of the Pittsburgh system and will not be nearly as good in NJ. And also Pittsburgh is supposedly turning Ty Smith into a top D man now.

How much of this is just Pens fans and anti-Devils people trying to spin the trade in favor of Pittsburgh or is there even a tiny bit of truth to this? Does it overrate the Pens defence system/coaching and winning culture?
From what I'm seeing on the main board most pens fans believe we got a good or decent deal and hope their system can give Ty the kick in the ass he needs, but not a top pairing guy.

They've been pleasantly civil tbh.

It's the rags fans shitting all over the thing and apparently Pittsburgh hates them a whole bunch.

They never miss an opportunity to shit all over the Devils dealings.

definitely but Calgary won't go for that. Simply using logic you get an extended Tkachuk and Flames get RFA Bratt and an upcoming UFA Severson? Why would they ever do that? Even if you use HF logic and get an extended Tkachuk and give Bratt and Severson their extensions at apprx 8M per why would the Flames give up the best player by far and take on approx 16M in cap space for those two players?
Because when it comes to trade ideas and speculations, many of us want the Devils to be the "winners" of said trade instead of having both teams benefit.

If I were being honest Id cast my vote for Fox, Trouba, Schneider.
I don’t think that’s unreasonable. Could see it either way. Fox is definitely better than Hamilton, Severson is better than Trouba and Marino is better than Schneider at the moment IMO. I think it comes down to how big you think that difference between Fox and Hamilton is. Kind of depends on whether Hamilton bounces back or not too.

To me it depends on how high you rate Fox as he is obviously better then anyone we have. I don't think very highly of Trouba, Severson is better then him, and Marino is better then Schneider right now.
Trouba is not very good and his contract is horrendous.

I wouldn't say Severson is better than Trouba. They both do different things well and I think it depends on what you prefer but overall I think it's close...Trouba isn't the possession Dman Severson is but he's clearly the better pure defender. The offensive ability isn't all that different between the two. I think it's real close but I do prefer a defender that can rack up over 200 hits in a season and put up 40 points.

This is the complete opposite for Trouba. He's like Jack Johnson in that he produces points and can hit, but is terrible at actually defending.

You can only believe Trouba is terrible at "actually defending" from looking at player cards and seeing sub 50% events for... There is no way you can actually watch him and think that .

Trouba has been used in a defensive role his entire career from PK to zone starts and has done extremely well.

Currently it is big enough to where I'd take the Rangers trio. He's the #2 Dman in the league IMO.
