Schnieder is the kind of goalie, where you wont really remember any particular saves he may make in a game. He's not flashy, he makes things look easy, under the radar..ish. He is always in position, and plays with urgency when his crease is compromised. He doesn't look at the refs when someone bumps into him, he stays focused on the puck and nothing else. Still, he can throw his toe out or flash the leather with the best of them if need be.

It is an adventure whenever he leaves the crease to play the puck though lol! Maybe the king can help him with that.

yeah, people that complained when moose handled the puck are going to have a field day when they see what the rest of the league deals with.

our goaltending really just wasn't very good last year.

You have to understand... I've been a Devils fan since 1993, and since 1994 I've known almost nothing but Martin Brodeur. (There was that one season of Scott Clemmensen once.) I have a hard time comprehending goaltenders who can't handle the puck.

Until I see different, I maintain Schneider is better than any goalie in our division (Including the 3 new teams) other than Lundqvist. I think even when we see what happens with the Flyers and Islanders, I'll still be saying the same thing. I don't think either of them will get anybody as good.

oh i understand, but people complained about hedberg when he's been one of the better ones in the league throughout his career. i'm dreading reading about a below average guy after every gaffe this year.

bernier is off the market

the luongo to isles can't happen now, right?

i heard the flyers inquired about halak..

who else is out there at this point?

edit: when the trade is announced, the camera pans to the crowd and there are two flyer fans in total disbelief.

Even Marty occasionally gets in trouble with the puck a couple times a year. It happened a couple times in last years playoffs alone, and it even happened a couple times in the 2000 ECF just in that one series. It's not a big deal when he touches the puck as regularly as he does though.

I mean hell, Jonathan Quick very rarely plays the puck, and seems to get in trouble almost every 3 or 4 times he does.

FYI our division now has Holtby, Wardo and maybe Bobo in it now.

Ya your reaction now makes a lot more sense because I know you have been really high on Schneider and wanted to get him here somehow.

I also feel bad for Moose, and I did want to see him try and bounce back for us next year. It was always going to be a large task for the two of them to carry the load of an 82 game season not counting possible injuries. I agree Moose can still play and back up somewhere. Still not we got a MUCH better goalie not just for now but the future.

I think some of the shock for me (and others) has to do with what Classic said, I really don't remember anymore what it was like NOT to have Marty be the guy on this team. So while it is amazing to have his succession set in such a solid way. Today more then anything else REALLY made it hit home that his reign is about to end. That is not the best feeling.

No one really. Might have to call up St Louis, and that's pretty much it. Luongo is obviously staying put. Might have another year of Nabby/Poulin out on Long Island. Ryan Miller to one of those teams is a possibility though. He hasn't scared me in a couple years though. He still played decently in Buffalo the last couple years and they still sucked.

I've been hearing that the supposed EDM offer for Schneider of 1st + 2nd + Prospect was actually VAN's asking price. EDM's actual offer was Sam Gagner + 1st. VAN declined probably because of divisional rivalry.

My guess on NYI's offer could've been in the area of a player(s) (Neiderreiter plus?) + 15 overall pick being the centerpiece. It's clear that VAN's goal was Bo Horvat and they probably felt he'd be picked before 15 overall.

With that in mind I definitely think NJD's 9th was the best deal possible for VAN to make to resolve their goalie issues, most other teams probably weren't willing to give up roster players for Schnieder.

Sam Gagner and a 1st (especially if it was the 7th overall) is quite a bit better an offer than the 9th straight up.

I know, but I still think Schneider is better than all those guys. Ward is debatable, but I personally would take Schneider. Holtby looks like he's gonna be pretty nice, but he's still relatively new. I'm not sure about Bobrovsky. He will likely be good, but still am not taking him over Schneider ever.

Bob wasn't very good before Columbus, but most of that I think was how bad the Flyers are. No concept of team defense at all over there.

You guys got lucky

Boneheaded move by gillis, literally it was one bad game and one good one in the playoffs where he was rushed and likely still injured, and he played great in game 4, but Gillis gives into his bipolar fanbase.

Congrats on a great goalie.

I wonder how the Flyers feel, they've been searching for a #1 goalie forever and Lou makes it look easy

I doubt the playoff games really had anything to do with moving Schneider. I think he was just much easier to move than Luongo, and buying out Luongo was a waste.

I'm happy for both of them though. Both have been pure class throughout the whole ''Controversy'' or whatever you wanna call it. Both deserve to be a number 1 somewhere.

More saying it because we need to get used to the fact our division isn't just the old Atlantic rivals anymore.

I'm not scared of Carolina, or Columbus. Washington is a tough one to figure out. They have dominated down there with all the weak teams, but how will they do with some better teams they'll be going up against? I think Carolina will stay down. Weren't able to do **** for the most part in that weak SE the last few years.

I'm worried about Carolina though since we seem to have trouble with them. We either lose to them in crappy fashion like those couple games this past year, and the Cam Ward goal game, or we win very convincingly against them like Marty's goal game this year, and the 5-0 shutout down there that clinched us a playoff berth in 2012.

Would be Moose 100% which is hilarious, but man reminds how bad I feel for him right now. That really must of been a terrible feeling in the booth for him when he heard that go down.

Apparently TG said Lou and him had a sit down about his future and I hope if possible we do right by him.

Yeah Moose should be able to find someone to take him. I wouldn't even be mad if he signed with the Flyers or Islanders or something. That would probably only happen if we amnestied him or something, but the guy was forced to leave. Can't fault him for finding work wherever he can basically.

He'd make a fantastic backup somewhere where a healthy/semi younger goalie was the starter. Compare his save percentage this year in games where he was playing as a backup to games where he was starting all those games consecutively while Marty was injured. It was like a 912 as a backup which is pretty good for a backup goalie and close enough to where he was his first two years with us, and like an 869 as a starter. I ran the numbers a while ago. That tells me he's not a beer league level goalie, just at a starting level and those were the most consecutive games he's started in the NHL in his entire career.

Do right by him? What? This is a business. You make it sound like he's a 25 year old stud goaltender that we just acquired. He's 39. He has one year left on his deal. He's been around the block, he knows the drill.

Any chance you have to improve your team, you do it. You don't think, "Oh jee, I have to make sure this guy and his family are taken care of before I do it..."

It's possible to do right by Moose while still taking every chance to improve your team..

that's the difference between operating with class and not. Lou will give Hedberg every opportunity to find a job elsewhere and facilitate a trade while other GMs may just tell him to hang them up.

I think you're taking Eddy's point the wrong way. I think he meant by ''Do right by him'' to give him a chance to maybe go somewhere else and play. Which I think Lou will do for him. Not to ''Keep him on the team so we don't hurt his feelings''.
