yeah, if no RWer, then i think this is it. it's good enough, i guess, unless we make a trade.

i think depending on how our prospects do, we might be able to swing a trade for another top 6 winger. or perhaps boqvist is ready to step in

yep i’m more than ok going into the season with what we have.

adding subban and smith is HUGE...really can’t overstate what an overhaul that is on the back end. hughes and simmonds on top of that, plus consistent goaltending, and playoffs are definitely possible. i’m excited

On the one hand I think we are set up pretty well for a trade, we have excess players at multiple positions, guys like Zacha, or Wood, or Boqvist, or Mueller, plus guys like Anderson, Seney and Mcleod.

On the other hand Shero has talked about the need for organizational depth. We were hit pretty hard by inuries last year and we saw the results, not just the record, but playing guys like Gabriel and Pietila or a not ready McLeod for 20 games.

Wouldn’t you guys like to know my secrets. Hmph!

I mean, they've played basically the same amount of games (Zacha has played one more) and Zacha has 3 more points

However Zacha is so much better defensively, it isn't even close

I'm not really sure what you're watching.
Zacha is better defensively but offensively he sucks.

Wood has spent most of his Devils career on 4th line and yet only has 3 points less than Zacha who was our 2nd line center to start last season.

Zacha should not be gifted another 2nd line role if he doesnt produce offensively. He is more suited to be the teams 4th line center behind Zajac.

Wood maybe could also be not up be a 2nd liner but he should be trialled first.

We already tried Zacha and he failed. Its time to look at other players for the role. Wood 19 goal season from 4th line the season before last shows he has got potential to move up in the lineup.

lol this post is so biased its hilarious

Wood is 2 years older and they have basically the same production for their careers. BUT YEAH OTHER THAN THAT.

In pretty equal minutes, at 5v5 over the last 3 years.

Wood 1.62 pts/60
Zacha 1.14 pts/60.

And yes Zacha has had the better linemates, but conversely he's 1.5 years younger.

Now I'll disregard those #'s and say if I had to choose one to be the 2nd line LW it would be Zacha.

I'm famously un-optimistic about the career NHL prospects of young Mr. Zacha, but I too recognize he's a better player than Wood.

Again, (and I never miss a chance to let this go unmentioned) this even being an "argument" relates to the fact some hockey fans couldn't care less about defense.

Zacha's 'defense' is being seriously overrated here - he is quite good on the PK, I'm not sure he's a shot suppressor at even strength, and I'm also not convinced that his decent results at the end of this season aren't a mirage.

How many did he have in his first 54?

Not sure where you're getting 54 games from, but if you meant how many did he have last season before those last 28 games...8 points in his first 33 games. It's entirely possible those last 28 games were a mirage and he regresses to being a mid 20 points player, but I would say he at least deserves a chance to build off those last 28 games before we write him off completely.

Also, why is it a 22 year old Zacha has no chance to improve, but a 23 year old Wood, who has had exactly one productive season, does? Yes, Wood had 19 goals two year ago. He also has 18 goals in the other 123 games he's played. So which is the real Wood?
