I agree with your post for the most part.

The torrid 4-0 start this season is incredibly confusing to me. I understand it's a very small sample size but the level of play was very high. It looked like a team that was turning the corner. Then they had a tough game at home against Colorado where, despite playing poorly, they led 3-2 in the 3rd period only for it all to come crashing down late. Two days later, they are in Philadelphia and look like they were all driven over by a semi truck. No effort, no structure. Nashville comes to town and they actually play a solid game. It was exciting hockey against a Stanley Cup contender. They have 3 different leads but end up losing in OT.

After this is where the wheels seemingly fell off. Multiple no shows, multiple blown leads. Very ugly hockey after what was a great start. It's been amazing and horrifying to watch. I saw the game in Winnipeg in person and the lack of discipline and structure was astounding to me. There was no cohesion on the breakout. Forwards would blow the zone and give the dmen nowhere to go. Players would blow their assignments and result in wide open attempts against.

I think it's obvious the team is playing with zero confidence. Who does that fall on? The coach? The players? Both? Despite things being in the gutter right now, I am excited to see what the rest of the season brings. I do believe they are better than this. Much better? Who knows.
Great post. The answer is both. IMO the reason the "coach is the whole problem" crowd arises is because it is easy to just blame one person and that is those posters way to not admit to being wrong about the talent level of the team.

What this team needs more than anything is a high skill forward in Nico's age range and a top pair DMan. Every time you watch them blow a lead or play like they did against Tampa is think that it will lead to a higher pick which gives the Devils a better chance to get that high skill forward in Nico's age range which will help the team in the long run.

Banking on free agents even making it to July 1st, never mind actually signing here is a losing proposition.

I don't think anyone is banking on it. There's been no track record to make anyone think it'll even happen. However, Stone is a guy who would absolutely fill a huge need. I'm particularly interested in trying to sign him AND Duchene if possible. Moreso Stone before anyone @s me and starts saying why we shouldn't be interested in Duchene.

In every interview I recall where Shero touched on the rebuilding subject he has said it’s a patient process and hat he has an ok from ownership on draft and build from within. Given that they did that with the Sixers and endured a period of misery it seems likely they have the stomachs for the same with the hockey team. I’m sure Shero would like to sign a needle moving UFA or make another Hall for Larsson trade. I’m skeptical that failing those opportunities presenting themselves he mortgages much of the future to add minimal upgrade players. We know he will move second and lower round picks and prospects he deems expendable but again deals like that require two to tango. My thought is that we all have to buckle up because it is going to continue to be a bumpy ride.

Wouldn’t shock me to find out he’s holding his breath waiting for July 1 and then he will reassess.

Shero goes after free agents, but it is never his primary source for building the team, precisely because of how often it doesn’t work out.

Every guy this board has wanted over the past two years via free agency either resigned before July 1st or signed elsewhere (in many cases with the dumb “childhood favorite” garbage excuse)

The only realistic July 1st signing that will be concerning us is Taylor Hall

If you were responding to my July 1 comment I was implying the Hall re-signing window. Once Hall signs Sherocan see where to go next. If Hall says no Shero’s sort of stuck with the more complete rebuild at that point.

Owners have come out and said Hall is a top priority before

Whether I agree with it or not, Shero may be let go if Hall wants to test free agency

Newsflash :

MarJo can't finish.

Water is Wet.

Sky is Blue.

And Hall is getting, like Eddy said, a Blank Check.

Shero is going to make damn sure he is a Devil for LIFE.

“Devil for Life”

Yep, I’m sure Taylor wants to ignore those 1st 6 seasons of his career as well. (Not doing that much better here though)

Taylor Hall holds all the cards, I don’t know what you want Shero to do if Hall says he’s testing the market.

Sometimes, money isn’t the issue. He’ll get paid by us or some other team, there’s no question about that.

Personally, I think he’s probably more concerned about being on a winning team then earning an extra couple of millions.

I never said otherwise... I was responding to the poster who said that ownership had to come out and say something about TH being a top priority and that Shero should be let go if he can't resign him.

That statement doesn't make any sense whatsoever.

Or you just dont agree with it

Crazy how that works.

Its funny though, the only reason I can imagine Hall leaving is if we arent competitive. Gee, i wonder whos shoulders that falls on....... having a non-competitive team five years in and it ultimately costing you your superstar in their prime...

Shero took over a dumpster fire that was generated by Lou Lamoriello.

The simple fact that Shero was able to land Taylor Hall for Adam Larsson should earn him an extension on that move alone. For whatever reason, you make it sound like it's easy to add elite players... especially when we have nothing to move to get them.

Shero isn't the issue, the issue is that we have impatient fans who wants to fast forward a process that will see us make the post season and lose in the 1st round. If it takes another 2 to 3 years in order to be a legit contender, so be it.

watching scoring around the league, 50% of the goals shot from the point were going in.

Bar down shots from goalies that are down seemed up too.

Allot of 2 on 1's and , break aways.

Defensively allot where stopped instead of hooking the player, take his forehand position away, so the goalie just has to worry about the 5, and backhand.

Just and observation.

I don't think it falls on Shero if he can't resign him. It's not like we drafted and developed Hall and made him our captain, he's been here a few years and wants to win and I can't blame him if he wants to leave. If Shero tries to do what the Islanders did with tavares and wait it out, he should be fired before the start of the next year and bring someone in who will trade hall.
