SO, Stolarz in Net... one Matthews doubtful for tomorrow, one maybe for tomorrow... ok.

Selfishly, I hope he misses tomorrow too. It forces the team to step up and continue to drive play without relying on Matthews, we saw it with the PP last game or how Marner looked without him. I'm hoping it will open up Berube to the idea of splitting them up.

Detroit is coping with a flu bug going through the team apparently.

But I feel like the boys tend to shit the bed during HoF games.

I think it's gonna be a tight OT/SO win.

Speaking of HoF games, my first ever Leafs game was 11 years ago today, Leafs vs Devils. Ironically, that was Brendan Shanahan's HHoF induction class, and he was part of the pre-game ceremony. Got the tickets from our very own @ACC1224, paid $160 for the pair, don't think that will ever happen again

The game was mostly boring tbh, a low-event affair that was 0-0 until late into the third period, where Kessel scored this beauty:

Of course, shortly after Bernier let in a garbage softie, then the game went to a shootout where we won.

No surprise, but Leafs captain Auston Matthews (upper body) won’t play … Anthony Stolarz was the first goalie off the ice at the Leafs’ optional morning skate, putting him line to make his third consecutive start. In his only career start against the Red Wings — and his second career start in the National Hockey League — Stolarz posted a 28-save shutout for the Philadelphia Flyers on Dec. 11, 2016 … Cam Talbot gets the call in goal for Detroit. He’s 6-3-1 in 12 career games against the Leafs with a .917 save percentage. The Wings recalled goalie Ville Husso from Grand Rapids of the American Hockey League to back up Talbot, as Alex Lyon suffered a lower-body injury in practice on Thursday … Ex-Leaf Justin Holl will draw in on the Wings blue line, replacing fellow defenceman Jeff Petry.

To the consternation of general manager Steve Yzerman (we would guess), the Red Wings haven’t nailed down consistency through the first month. After losing and winning in its first two games, Detroit lost two, won three, lost three and arrive in Toronto having won its past two … Just in time for suddenly clicking Leafs power play comes a Wings penalty kill that was 28th in the NHL before games on Thursday, though the visitors are 7-for-8 on the kill in their past four games … Lucas Raymond leads the Wings in scoring with 12 points, but has just one goal in 12 games after scoring a career-high 31 a year ago … The Leafs are coming off one their most complete wins of the season, a 4-0 shutout against the Boston Bruins on Tuesday. Toronto gave up just 14 shots on goal at five-on-five, equalling its fewest against (done twice previously) in a game in 2024-25 … Considering he has 28 points (14 goals and 14 assists) in 24 career games against the Wings, it stands to reason that Mitch Marner will extend his point streak to seven games.

Either we are going to be really happy Sunday or really mad I feel like. 2 very winnable games, games that each year we look back on and feel like we SHOULD have won. These are 4 divisional points, these are the games this team always drops.

So I want to see them play these games seriously with the effort they have been able to show semi consistently. I can accept a loss due to hockey shenanigans like game 1 vs Montreal but there better be no Columbus efforts this weekend.

What team is going to show up for the two games Friday and Saturday, the one that played against Columbus, or the ones that played against Tampa and Boston?

Team has been wildly inconstant and needs to start stringing some wins together.

Great goal by Phil! So weird that NJ got a penalty on the play and we got a PP even tho we scored??

So this is gonna be the down year for Matthews huh? He’s really settling into that pattern, if it is I would bet he scores 70+ next season

Anyways, I think we win today, stolarz in net against a divisional rival who we play well recently. Tomorrow is a whole different story, especially with what we get from woll.
