Traded Hronek for Asp in March 2023 (and replaced him with Petry)
Drafted 2 very promising goalies along the way
Ready to roll in 2028 (5 years after trading Hronek)
Does appear to be the plan.

I have to ask.. do you think ASP will supplant Seider and move Seider to 2RD? I'm a big Seider fan and don't see anyone taking his 1RD minutes any season soon... only about 4 or 5 guys I'd put ahead of him in the entire NHL on D.
He replaced Hronek with Petry. That is a loss.
I just don't like the 'we drafted a guy that will replace him in 5 years' argument. That is some 3D chess if Stevie Y know on March 1st, 2023 that he'd get a guy to replace Hronek in 2027.
Hakan Anderson. Arguably the GOAT of scouts in SwedenI think we'll just have to see when we get there.
Indeed, as long as we are talking about 23/24 season. Thinking longer term, in my opinion the move was prompted by realization that we won't be able to keep Hronek long term, so the downgrade was essentially forced by circumstances. On the other hand, the Wings have improved their record in 23/24 despite this downgrade, so the loss was not at all irreplaceable. Hronek was replaced by a committee, as is often the case.
Me neither, it's hindsight rationalization. Like I said, SY did reasonably well with the trade given the circumstances, but it's the DRW amateur scouting that made a big difference here. And, of course, whoever hired them should get a fair bit of credit. So, maybe not in a way that 3D chess rationale goes, but SY deserves a lot of credit here.
That's probably Yzerman's rebuild timeline. I think when one of Cossa and/or Augustine hit and prove to be a legit starter, it's GO time. I think that is when you start seeing Yzerman being more aggressive in trades and UFA signings.

Don't worry it's gonna be in another 2-3 years at the end of next season ! (I feel stuck in a loop)So, another 2-3 years???

Seems extremely simplified and easily proven incorrect. If those guys were elite they would be in a playoff spot right now.
I do think he has the potential to be better. 100% But he won't be a Hronek replacement for at least 2 more years. Really makes me question the word 'replacement'.
First off; not every trade needs someone to "declare victory". Vancouver fans seem happy with Hronek, most Wings fans are excited about ASP.Can you give me another example of a trade where fans waited 5 years to declare victory?
I'm sorry that's ridiculous. I know you're czech-centric, but there's a lot more to the rebuilding timeline than 2nd pair RHD.Hired in April 2019

Even as an attempt to be funny how does that picture make any sense? You can argue that what they're building sucks and has no potential for success, but you can't really argue that they're not trying to build something.Live look at said houseView attachment 992864
I'm not unfamiliar at all. I kept being told by wings fans here that asp is the Hronek replacement. First time I heard it I didn't know who asp was and thought he was some 23 year old swede playing in the NHL. Had to look him up and see he's not even in North America and yet I am year two of this argument. Are you just unfamiliar with what rebuilding teams do? They trade off players that they don't see fitting into either A. their timeline and/or B. the team they are attempting to put together, for future assets. That the Wings happened to draft a RHD with the pick they got for Hronek is just coincidental. Pretend the Danielson and ASP picks were made with the other selection and this whole thing is a non-issue.
I was replying to the poster .. maybe read their comment before cherry picking mine. Given there are no Czechs that are part of this rebuild.. I have no idea why you mention me being Czech centric. I absolutely am but I don't bring it up here at all.I'm sorry that's ridiculous. I know you're czech-centric, but there's a lot more to the rebuilding timeline than 2nd pair RHD.
ONE of Cossa/Augustine. Which makes a lot of sense, goalie is one of the team's biggest weaknesses. Cossa might be ready for NHL time next season. ASP will get NHL games next season, possibly even this season.I was replying to the poster .. maybe read their comment before cherry picking mine. In this case I was told that Stevie Y will get serious once asp, cossa and Augustibe arrive! Well that's not this season or next season. Unless you think 2 rookie goalies and a rookie d are carrying to glory next year.
Yup. A partner is very important for elite D to shine. Makar got Toews and took off. Hughes got Hronek and it’s a Norris and insane puck possession. Not too sure if Seider is more that Toews, Hronek complimentary guy to a star? Wings should try and get Dahlin. Then Seider could be that anchor for Dahlin. Not many Wings fans miss Hronek. Even if they didn't have ASP or anything. I'd say the most needed thing is getting Seider a partner that is not Ben Chiarot. Ed-Aljo rookie pairing has been pretty good. Then they just need a third pairing that doesn't just absolute tank the team as badly as Gustafsson-Holl can.
They should "try to get Dahlin", easy.Yup. A partner is very important for elite D to shine. Makar got Toews and took off. Hughes got Hronek and it’s a Norris and insane puck possession. When do you think Asp and one of Cossa/Augustine will be difference makers in the NHL? Big difference between playing in NHL and being established as a difference maker and leading your team on Cup runs. Eg. Seider, Larkin and Raymond have become difference makers in the NHL.ONE of Cossa/Augustine. Which makes a lot of sense, goalie is one of the team's biggest weaknesses. Cossa might be ready for NHL time next season. ASP will get NHL games next season, possibly even this season.
I don't share that posters thoughts on everything but I don't know how you're getting 2028 from saying they're waiting for 2 more prospects.
There was no need for an immediate Hronek replacement. The rest of the team wasn't ready. And it made no sense to pay a guy $7M+ to not be able to carry his own pairing.I'm not unfamiliar at all. I don't think that makes any sense. Now posters are telling me he isnt the Hronek replacement and that was my whole point.lol. so we actually agree.
You're the 4th poster to tell me calling Asp a Hronek replacement is stupid. I totally agree! That's my point.lolThere was no need for an immediate Hronek replacement. The rest of the team wasn't ready. And it made no sense to pay a guy $7M+ to not be able to carry his own pairing.
I don't think they drafted him to be a hronek replacement. They don't want to replace hronek. They would have just kept hronek instead of replacing him. They wanted more bang for the buck than hronek was worth and ASP fell in their lap. You're the 4th poster to tell me calling Asp a Hronek replacement is stupid. I totally agree! That's my point.lol
I think you guys all think I'm saying 'should've kept Hronek'. I'm thrilled he's gone and love that trade. I took excpetion with Asp is a Hronek replacement. He's not. He won't be anytime soon.
I think the hang up here may be that Wings fans view ASP as the heir apparent to the 2RD slot which was occupied by Hronek. That has been magnified by the pick garnered in said Hronek trade became ASP. From your side, you have suggested Petry was the ACTUAL replacement, given he occupied that spot in the lineup the following season. I don't either position is incorrect per say, inherently most Wings fans are conditioned at this point to view things from a long term, futures, point of view.I'm not unfamiliar at all. Detroit falls into the trap of... so is everyone else.Weird loop considering they have gotten significantly better year-over-year, with this season being nothing short of an amazing turnaround since the coaching change... oh, and the emergence of the kids.
Wings rookies combine are top 4 or 5 in the entire NHL in scoring among rookies this season. (they are achieving this with mostly dmen rookies, and the emergence of Kasper). This stat would have gone up if Mazur didn't get injured in his first NHL shift)
Not to mention a majority of their acclaimed prospects are still developing and looking like game breaking studs in the making (ASP especially).
But let's be uniformed and clueless and call it a "loop".![]()
