Detroit Redwings Downfall

They've been mostly getting outplayed again recently but I'll take the wins.

Against Calgary? Sure. But Calgary didn’t really generate a ton of quality chances. Lots of point shots that got deflected to the corner. And the only line that was truly dominated was DeBrincat - Copp - Tarasenko. That 2nd line gave me the runny shits.

Edmonton was closer to 50/50, but that first period was stinky. Goaltending and digging down defensively helped Detroit steal 2 wins.

It’s a 4 game road trip. The wings have 4 points out of 4 right now. If they finish up with 1 more point out of the last two games I think we’ll be ok with the results. Anything more than 5 out of 8 is icing on the cake.

Nucks aren't in the best spot right now... they are due for a loss IMO. So I'd say 6 out of 8 is reasonable right now.

There is some nice wins for the Yzerplan apologists right now.. Raymond winning his draft class and llooking like a 100 poiter..Kaspar catching fire.. Edv looking damn good.. seider looking amazing... Larkin catching fire. So maybe it pivots towards wings fans winning!? Time will tell.

Oh, sure, NOW the haters and the doubters have suddenly acquired patience. Will this newfound patience still be there once DRW hit a cold streak?

It sure looks like Lalonde was the problem in Detroit. Amazing what a good coach can do (plus getting rid of a bad coach); I'm seeing this also.
Red Wings under McLellan

13-4-1, 27 points (tied for first)

3.39 goals per game (fourth)

2.67 goals against per game (14th)

Power play: 35.7 percent (second)

Shots differential: Plus-23 (13th)

Red Wings before McLellan

13-17-4, 30 points (tied for 27th)

2.59 goals per game (29th)

3.26 goals against per game (25th)

Power play: 22.7 percent (tied for 11th)

Shots differential: minus-170 (32nd)

They have allowed only nine goals in their past six games (5-0-1).

The stats under McLelllan is what matters moving forward and not what came before. Their 27 points during that span is tied for first in the NHL with Dallas (13-4-1) and Washington (11-2-5).

Maybe but Detroit is also on a back-to-back on the road playing their 3rd game in 4 nights. I think expecting a win against Vancouver in this scenario is asking a lot. I’d consider it a big success if they just make it to OT.

The big difference seems to be McLellan just doing basic coaching and letting the guys play. Whereas Lalonde was experimenting a little too much. I guess experience plays a role here, but sometimes when you have skilled guys on the team, you just need to ride them win or lose.

Those are some ugly wins to be bragging about. Vancouver pretty unlucky not to get 2pts there.
Not bragging about a single win. They are 14-4-1 since Todd took over. They are obviously not an .800 team but they are way better than they looked under Lalonde. Thats the point. People at the start of this thread were going off smugly about how there are zero elite players on the team, playoffs are still “many years away”, it’s a failed rebuild, etc. Clearly very hyperbolic statements.

Serving crow is a central tenet of this site. Raymond and Jack Hughes are the only U26 players in the top 20 in NHL scoring. Seider is a franchise 1D pacing for 50 pts playing 25 minutes a night against the hardest competition in the NHL. These are both superstar elite players. They are in a playoff spot now, they might not hold it, but the team is improving every year as many of us said it was.
