Not only that, but their forward depth is comical outside of Larkin/Raymond/Debrincat. Kane lookin cooked 5 on 5.That defense is beyond comical outside of Seider/Edvinsson, don't kid yourself lmao.

Have you heard of this thing called 'THE DRAFT LOTTERY'?The team just never finished quite bad enough to ever draft truly elite young talent, the kind who can actually drive a team to the playoffs. Ending up with a group of good, but not star level talent just isn't enough.
Wings fans have also overestimated just how many of their prospects would reach their ceilings (few players ever truly do).
Yzerman is a decent GM, but not a miracle worker.
And the team has been stuck in a rough division with four teams consistently better than the bottom 4.
Tarasenko is on a milk carton - as is most of this team...Until Lalonde is gone this team will continue to be a bag of dried cat turds.Tarasenko must perform more.
Tarasenko is mediocre so far.
Lalonde is horrible...90% of us Red Wings fans will tell you the same...Those 10% that disagree spend too much time in the legal cannabis shops throughout the metro Detroit area. The Wings overachieving last season should be a feather in Lalonde's cap.
He got a lot out of a roster with little talent. Don't know if that will happen again two seasons in a row.
Selling Holland's young assets turned into ASP, Debrincat, Cossa, and Buchelnikov. It's shocking how little value Yzerman has brought in.
Yzerman did alright with picking players with extremely high NHLe and overagers but terribly otherwise, now he's not even picking players with high NHLe.
What they were ranked and what they turned out to be are completely different and is completely irrelevant to today.Larkin and AA too. The Red Wings were consistently ranked as a top 10 prospect pool in 2018 too.
They should be, they missed the playoffs 6 times since then, yet the closest thing Yzerman got to an extra asset was a 2nd to take Staal when he also dumped Walman with a 2nd later on. In a best case scenario Larkin will be 29 before any of Yzerman's picks after #8 make the team, he'll probably be 29 before any pick after #6 score 30 points.
Dude was trying to say trading AA, a guy currently waived, for two 2nds was a major blunder by Yzerman.Failing to see how turning Tyler Bertuzzi, who didn't want to resign, into Debrincat, was a bad move. And considering how Cossa and Buchelnikov are developing, I'll take that over Mantha's Jekyll and Hyde effort level on a shitty team.
This is the second time now that you've tried bringing up Holland with some sort of reverence, after already being told once that his drafting was absolute shit from 2015-2023.
Nine years of drafts and after Hronek the best three picks under Holland are Dylan Holloway, Phillip Broberg, and Michael Rasmussen. When Joe Veleno rounds out your top 5 draftees in a 9 year period, you've done a shit job.
Hronek is pretty good. They traded him for magic beans.A great position?
They had a 1C and nothing else of real value.
They had top prospects of…. Zadina, Veleno, Cholowski
They were also a near cap team
What the hell are you talking about? Hahah
Hronek is pretty good. They traded him for magic beans.
Yzerman didn't use any of his picks to bring in any young core pieces.
He's been pretty average. Looks alot like a Holland managed team really. Slow build. Very conservative approach. No big moves. Just adding free agents and slow playing prospects.
If Yzerman was a true hockey genius he probably would have identified a young underappreciated guy in a other org and brought him in by now.
So far it's just add vets and sitting on hands. That's Holland team building.
Edvinsson was 21, a 6th overall pick and good enough to come up and instantly be part of one of the best pairings in the league currently. The wings keep kids down longer than most teams, and even with that said, there's one damn in the entire NHL that has played a season worth of games from the 2020 2nd or 3rd round. If a player can't crack a mediocre roster when they're 22/23 years old, they're probably just not that good. Guys like Seider, Raymond and Edvinsson were there by 19 or 20.

There's actually barely any forwards that have made it and should be considered full time NHLers
So the team isn't young enough in this thread, they trade a guy who was asking for a lot of money.... and with that pick, drafted one of the best defensive prospects in the entire league, and they still get shit on for it.
Makes sense
Should they go after Monty, now that he’s available.
Sorry, who is the Lane Hutson here, on the narrow topic of 2019 and 2020 Red Wing post-1st round draft picks? And if they don't Lane Hutson him and actually try to develop some defensive ability before fast-tracking him to the NHL, we'll mock that he "Can't crack the roster."

Gotcha, thanks for clarification, it was confusing since the two were fuzed together. I don't take issue with an 05-born Mid-1st round pick Defenseman in ASP continuing into SHL at the moment. They may even consider giving him half to a full season in Grand Rapids next year. I just take issue with keeping players down simply for the sake of keeping them down to burn through the longest possible period to keep them exempt from Waivers. Fine for guys that are just 4th liners but players with Top 9/Middle 3 ability shouldn't be artificially kept down. You're not tracking the conversation. He quoted two posts. Yours, and another about Hronek being traded for "Magic beans", regarding ASP.
My response to him was referencing ASP. It had nothing to do with your post, outside the "Can't crack the roster" comment, which isn't really a comment exclusively made by you.
Ehh I could've cut it down to just the reply about the Hronek/ASP post to make it more clear.Gotcha, thanks for clarification, it was confusing since the two were fuzed together. I don't think anyone would have believed the Red Wings would be tied for last in the East in November of 2024 when Yzerman returned in April of 2019. I certainly wouldn't have.
No, the blunder is not adding anyone you can flip.Dude was trying to say trading AA, a guy currently waived, for two 2nds was a major blunder by Yzerman.
Hes lost the plot
They're also 3 points out of last place in the league. Sure it's early and there's alot of parity league wide right now, but you seem to be one of few Wings fans still optimistic in this season. Do you think they will make the playoffs this year?I think most people are sensible enough to not be evaluating standings one whole month into the season.
They're also three whole points out of a playoff spot with a game in hand... Pretty slim margin with this few games played.
