Detroit Free Press: Red Wings might be interested in acquiring Cody Franson

Personally, I'd much rather send Phaneuf to Detriot instead of Franson.

Unfortunately, Detroit probably wouldn't be able to handle Phaneuf's over-blown salary/cap hit.

Why? look at his numbers, they dont lie.

The only reason Dion catches so much flak is because of the uniform he wears.

To be honest I am reluctant to trade any of the D without this shortened season to determine how the team plays in Carlyle's system. Even Komi. Decisions made may be regrettable.

One of the main reasons I'm happy the lock out ended is to see how Detroit does without Lidstrom leading their back end. Going to be interesting for sure.

I think there will be a rush of teams that decide last minute they don't want to carry contracts for another 5-10 years of some players, but don't have the money to pony out am amnesty payout. It hasn't happened yet, but I fully expect it to.

In this situation we would benefit - the team would trade said player to us, along with compensation for the amnesty (ie, picks, prospects, or players) and we would subsequently buy the player out, should be chose to.

I'm not worrying. NHL will find the way to strip us off all those picks and players and prospect, suspending people indefinitely and cancelling picks for bogus reasons so we cannot buy any good player for money. :shakehead

:laugh::laugh: @ the suggestion that Franson is better than Phaneuf

Some people are just crazy. Phaneuf gets hated because of the C..

People here think because he's captain, he has to get the Leafs into the playoffs, even if the team sucks at key positions.

yea let's trade him for a 3rd rounder, so we get a player that will have a 20% chance of becoming an NHLer (after 3,4 years as well) that franson already is
sounds like a good trade to me

Come on the Leafs can't draft a guy in the 2nd rd that can play. Franson has an upside and it's up the coaching staff to get it out of him.

If Detroit wants to be silly and suggest we would give up Franson for a 3rd or 4th round pick?! I suggest Franson is available for Jimmy Howard.... that's where I would start and see if they were willing to add more pieces to the trade....because I would be willing...

We don't have a very deep defense this year and most of our up and coming guys are not quite ready for the NHL. A third is probably "fair" return at this point... but I'm of the opinion that Franson is much better than he has shown. Last year was just a numbers game and he lost... I think he establishes himself as a regular and has a good year. A third will look like highway robbery in a few years.

Drafted in the 3rd round, now at the age of 25 with seven years of development and 2 nhl seasons. Detroit figures, yeah we'll maybe give you a 3rd or 4th
